Cedar Flats Loop is a 3.7 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Columbia Falls, Montana that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April until October. Dogs and horses are also able to use this trail.
There are other short trails within the loop, but the loop trail is the most distinguishable and traveled. The north end of the loop is on a forest service road for less than 0.5 miles.
From Columbia Falls - go North on 4th Ave West, the trail head is on your right 1.5 miles after the railroad tracks.
most of the trail has become a Logging Road. there's very little in the way of a hiking trail as we know it. However I enjoyed the trip.u
Very easy. Popular. Just note that the main part of the trailhead I found was right under the power lines. On either side is private property from what I saw. First time doing it. Saw a friend out on the trail. Purely random and wonderful. It looked like my friend parked in a different spot and did the loop from a different way which I thought was interesting!
It was a little rocky but overall a nice afternoon hike. Had tried to hike in Glacier but it was way too crowded so we left. Did not see another person on this hike. Did see one deer and some old bear tracks. It turns out it was mountain lion tracks after checking the internet.
One of the previous reviewers was correct, The directions lead you to a private driveway. Head for the power lines, the trailhead is directly underneath them. The trail was a little rocky in spots for running but over all pleasant. I'm glad I had the app and its maps To help me find the way!
Don’t go there!!!! We went there was trying to find a parking spot... so we drove little pass the trail, unfortunately we drove into someone’s private property( we had no idea) . Few seconds later as we drive in., a lady walked out the house saying “next time we will shot you !!” Oh well we didn’t end up going to the trail and went back to our cabin!
Mostly exposed but enough shade to keep it doable on a 90+ degree early August day.
Great trail for mountain biking, you have a small bike ride up the trail and then you have a smooth ride all the way down. For mountain bikers, I recommend you ride this trail in the summer to fall. In the spring time there was too much snow for riding regularly. But other than that a great trail!!!
Great winter trail!! Feb 14th Hiked in my boots but could’ve easily been in snowshoes or xc skis. Marked well, parking right off the highway.
Easy hike, nothing spectacular. Trailhead parking is where the highway and utility corridor intersect. Trail does follow power lines for about 1/2 mile or more. If you're taking your dog, keep him on a leash for his safety - there have been traps along the trail and dogs have been caught in them.
