Solid hike with a nice view of the Bozeman valley (1.5m version). Perfect for sunset. Pretty easy all-around.

Great hike. As a fair warning the .5 hike that is the hardest way to the M is steep and rocky so take your time. The longer 1.5 option is a lot easier with switchbacks. Great views from the top.

Nice short hike. Two complaints. Dog poop on the trail and leafy spurge everywhere. It’s going to look like Missoula before too long. Need to get some insects on the spurge.

The hike up the ‘M’ was great. The views and flowers were spectacular. Since I’m not a huge hiker and not it perfect shape, I felt this hike was strenuous. I was determined to get to the M though— it took me about 50 minutes going the longer trail. It was definitely worth it and I was so glad I made it to the top!

Had amazing views and not too far away from Bozeman! The trail was also fairly easy to hike.

The perfect hike for a short time allowance in the week days after work or on a time crunch.

lots of people lots of dogs, if you turn off to go up to Sypes, it's muddy and snowy but there is less traffic and that's where I got to bushwack and get some good pictures. Apparently M is where everyone goes to run as well.

Very popular and busy trail! Great views of the entire valley and definitely worth the hike!

Beautiful trail, incredible views! Only negative are the so called responsible dog owners. Counted at least a half dozen bags of dog squeeze along the trail. One was even tied to a branch. Come on Montana, you're better than that. They even provide bags and a receptacle at the trailhead. Don't ruin it for everyone. Pack it out or leave Fido at home.

Great for a short, quick hike and dog friendly, would not agree with "moderately" traffic though. Parking lot was full as well as the trail. If you are looking for a loner hike this isn't the one. Great views!

Convenient, lots of elevation, great views. Heavily travelled but great for a quick mountain experience!

Beautiful day for a hike. Took the 512 shortcut going up. It was fun to see a different side of the trail.

Love this trail, close to town and there are a lot of trail options to get to the M, from easy (still fairly strenuous) to difficult. I go with my kids (4,5 & 10) and it takes a few hours round trip and you can't beat the view from the M!

Definitely my favorite hike so far! The hike up the shorter trail was definitely more rigorous, but still manageable. I recommend the trail above the M if you've still gas left. I got to about 7100 ft!

An iconic trail for the Bozeman community, especially for those who are students. A short trek, either straight up, or on switch back trails. Synonymous to Drinking Horse Trail in difficulty and length.

Pros: Excellent views of Bozeman and valley, the "M", interesting rock spines, plenty of parking.
Cons: Steep grades, loose sand, confusing trail due to lack of blazes and numerous summit possibilities.
Recommendations: Trekking poles
