Short trail is mostly dirt and mud. Long route is packed snow.

Excellent hike with very open views of the surrounding mountains. It is entirely uphill even the easy way so be prepared for that. Not difficult though. One water bottle should be enough.

Beautiful trail & perfect weather for hiking. Took the “hard” way up and they’re not kidding. 840ft of elevation in one mile but well worth the views.

I have zero hiking experience so as I started my hike I noticed my breathing was a little heavy. I stopped few a times but once I passed through it I felt better it was definitely worth the hike the view is beautiful.

Beautiful hike, we saw the sunset at the bottom of the M, it was breathtaking. We did the hard way up and gradual down, and to be honest it was better for my knees. Great trail for the pups!

Awesome trail. We did the more gradual route up and the snow was mostly gone. Little bit of mud and ice. We did the hard route down and luckily no snow or ice on that side since it is very steep the whole way. Good signage. Lots of people out on the trail.

Nice trail with a variety of options to get to the top (strenuous [.5 miles], “easier way” [1.2m], etc). Links to other FS trails. Stunning views of the valley up top.

We took the shortest/hardest route on the way up and the shortcut/medium difficulty route on the way down. Short but intense elevation gains. Great view of Bozeman/Valley the whole way up the shorter trail. Lots of pretty foliage down the shortcut.

It sucks. It’s super steep, narrow, and crowded with mountain bikes and crossfitters who have nowhere to go during lockdown. Pretty view from about halfway but not a nature hike at all.

I enjoyed this trail because you can make it harder if you decide to. I forgot to bring a mask (recommended on precious review) so I would remember to do that. The trail can be tight if there are a lot of people.

Great workout for a short trail and some nice views. The trail gets much steeper and more intense if you keep going up past the “M”.

HikingGreat!

I hiked this on July 25, 2020 and didn't get started until probably ~7:45 pm. I hiked the "long way" (to the left) and went up and back the same way to avoid super-steep inclines. It's still a little bit steep toward the top, but nothing a person in reasonably good shape can't handle. Beautiful view of Bozeman from the base of the M. There was just the right amount of daylight to see a nice sunset on the way back down. The hike is a good way to burn off a hearty dinner! The trail is in great condition and is well-marked. I encountered a few other people...I felt comfortable hiking alone, and I also didn't feel the trail was at all crowded. I think I was a little bit late for the heavy wildflowers, but the scenery was still very nice. A sure-footed person could get by with running shoes on this trail; I need a little more stability and was glad to have on hiking boots.

Very fun hike with different tiers for different hikers. Extend your hike by going up bridger foothills for some steep elevation.
