Black Butte Trail to Big Horn Peak is a 12.1 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Gallatin Gateway, Montana that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from July until September.
Make sure you have a clear day for this hike. Do not attempt during bad weather. Bring lots of water - the last reliable source is about halfway up.
Late in the season so we had to be very bear conscious, but the top was incredible. Hard hike!
Came from Shelf Lake. A long walk out after the top. No water until about 2 miles from the trailhead. Blue huckleberries delicious this time of year.
