Beautiful hike with opportunities to get in the creek. Just be careful driving to the trailhead, still a lot of ice and snow!

Easy and relaxing 6.7 mile out and back for me and my 11 year old. Several side trails along the way to get on the creek. A downside was the numerous powder dirt sections due to dryness and horse traffic.

A very peaceful and relaxing trail with amazing scenery. The bridge offers excellent views of the creek and there are plenty of areas along the trail to stop for a picnic or photo opportunities. My dog thoroughly enjoyed it as well! Not busy at all even for a Friday afternoon.

This is our favorite hike in the Bitteroot. We hiked in with our 6 year old twins who did great. The header says 6.6 miles but it is 9.6 to the lake. We camped for 2 days at the lake. The hike however is no joke. It was 10.8 miles to our campsite. There were numerous trees down from what I would assume was a microburst along the trail, most of them (20 or more VERY large trees) at about 7.5 miles in. We had to literally climb on top of them, walk across them, which were laying in a zig-zag pattern until we picked up the trail again. (On the return trip, volunteers from the Sierra Club and Selway-Bitteroot Frank Church foundation had cleared all of the trees from the trail. Big thank you to them. Was very impressive). Once you pass the last bridge at about 8.5 miles, the real incline begins. The switchbacks are in the open so it's pretty hot in the middle of the day. The next mile to the lake is tough and right before you get to the lake there are about 70 steps that are spaced to accommodate a horses stride so carrying a heavy pack will make it brutal. It is worth it as you reach the spillway at the top and wading though the cold water feels amazing. The time at the lake was awesome and the weather was perfect. Fishing was great as well. We were able to swim in the lake when it warmed up on the 2nd day and the landscape is just incredible. This was our 5th hike to the lake and the first with our kids who wanted to stay longer. Next time we will stay a few more days. Highly recommend this hike. Recommend going during the week because there are limited camp sites for a large group like ours. (9 of us with our friends and family).

Easy and not very steep of a hike. Beautiful cedars and scenery, and the rush of the water sounds amazing through the hike. There are several game trails leading to the water when the main hiking trail veers away from it so it's a perfect hike for dogs and you don't have to carry their water. Pack bridge is breathtaking and there are awesome camping spots just 2 miles in and less!

Fun trail with a couple of streams to cross. Nice tree/shade covering. Hiked to the bridge and back. Brought children ages ranging from 4 years old to older teens. Did just fine.

TeePee Rock is about 5 miles in and worth the hike. A lot of water to cross in early spring...bring extra socks ❤️

The first four miles are great for beginners, children, pets, and all. The full hike up to the lake is a good bit more strenuous and I believe covers a total of eight miles and several thousand feet of elevation. If you are wanting to hike up to the lake, be prepared for a good hike. The lake and its ambient scenery is gorgeous and well worth the hike if you are physically capable of making it.
