Hiked this in July, a park ranger told us we might see a moose and sure enough we did! The trail is a little hard to follow, just make sure to look for signs. Definitely want to wear pants and bring bug spray

Snowshoeing

A nice little hike in soft, fluffy snow. We went backward and found that portion much easier to follow. On the return trip we lost the trail a few times in deeper snow. Plenty of moose tracks but didn't get to see anything on a brisk 3° morning.

Decent walk through the prairie. The loop we walked didn’t match well with Alltrails but there weren’t a lot of other trail options so it would have been hard to get lost.

A bit overgrown, is recommend long pants. Besides that, a great hike! Saw deer and a bull moose with 4’ antlers in the pond. Awesome! The trail is about 30’ from the pond where he was grazing in the water. If you start out on the trail going towards the park, you’ll get to a “Y” junction about a quarter mile from the parking lot. Stay to the left. Right takes you along side the lake and that trail does not hook up back to the main trail. Lots of flowers, even in July.

Loved the hike. It is a bit overgrown in some areas. Signs of bear are around. Beautiful flowers and scenic views of the lake and mountain.

Hiking

This trail was a very pleasant easy hike that can be done by anyone. A couple of recommendations, however, will change your feelings about this hike quite a bit. It should be done in early to mid-June when the meadow areas are bursting with wildflowers. These were quite spectacular and added immensely to the hike. I would also recommend doing the hike in a clockwise direction on the loop so that the wildflowers are met more immediately. Going counterclockwise makes for a far less satisfying experience, in my opinion, as the last 1/3 of the hike is quite unimpressive. Without the wildflowers, this hike would be fairly boring overall, with not much to recommend it. There was a moose around, seen by several other hikers today, but we failed to spot him. Pleasant hiking, but try to get there in June for an exceptional experience.

3.5 miles is an accurate description — unlike the information that is available from NPS signage. A pleasant walk through woods and meadows.

Beautiful hike! Light traffic with gorgeous views. Easy trail that is great for all ages. Overgrown in areas along the trail but overall well kept. The views along this trail are gorgeous! Even saw a moose upon completion of our hike! Highly recommend!!

Not heavily trafficked. Beautiful view of the mountains and lake. A little overgrown but still easily traversed. We were lucky enough to see a moose.

First to Review

Hiked out west side, trail overgrown in areas. Got to return point of loop, return path totally overgrown, had to double back. No beavers on the west side.
