If you're into hiking for the sake of hiking, 5/5. But, there isn't much to see here other than views if the lake that frankly don't rival what can be seen from the road. So many better trails with more to discover in the area.

A beautiful trail with a mix of trees, shrubs, wildflowers and lake views. Recent micro storms left the trail littered with downed firs/ponderosas. Cleared up to 1.5 miles from TH. After that, be prepared to climb over them. We counted 16 in 1/2 mile before we turned around when the trail looked more like a gauntlet. Great short hike until that point for a workout and to admire and respect the power of Mother Nature.

Great trail! So beautiful! Views of the lake, just gorgeous! May 10, 2020. Trees down. Forest service has cleared to about mile 1.5. Then from 1.9-2.2 a lot of trees down (which forest service has not got to yet). If you push through past that, great after!! Just jumping over a downed tree once in a while. We hiked in 3.5 miles.

Trail is clear about 0.8 miles in. From there the trail is covered in trees every so often. Not a bad trail if you don’t mind crawling under, climbing over, or walking around +100 fallen trees.

Lots of trees still down blocking trail. Forestry service was on site cleaning up. Should be all cleared by April 1 2020. There is also a easy 1 mile loop that goes down to the lake that is good for kids. Nice views of the lake and lake access.

Due to massive wind storms we’ve had in the last year there are a lot of trees down. About 0.8 mile in, the trail is impassable as of February 7th 2020

Nice trail. We were loving our hike this morning until we came across a fresh grizzly track in the trail, over the top of the mtn bike track that had been made since the heavy rain of the previous day. Thought it prudent to turn back! I took a photo. Front foot about 9” long with large claw prints. Definitely griz

Took the family out on this one; about a mile and a half out and then back again; all the kids (5-15) handled it well. Nice views of Flathead through the trees. Would love to do this one again.

Forest Service description of the trail: "The first mile is tough, right off the bat you'll have to clear a two foot step of knotted root and another tough rocky climb smack in the middle of the first switchback. The rocks continue and the grade bounces between 5 and 25%. After this section you power through another section of sharp rocks but the climb gets progressively easier. There are still several switchbacks and the trail remains rugged with difficult roots and small drainage crossings that create a lot of mud. Don't let the first mile beat you down, this one gets easier as you go. Some folks choose to shuttle this route, but the drive is quite long.

If you are looking for a trail that has steep switchbacks through the woods, with no noteworthy views for most of the hike, and little more than a dirt road at the end, then this is the hike for you! With the exception of a nice view of the lake at the beginning of the hike, this was a pretty disappointing hike.

If this is "moderate," I'll be staying away from "hard" ratings.

Great trail for the casual hiker! Some decent views of Flathead Lake. Not many people on the trail. Only saw one other couple on the entire hike.
