1906 Trail is a 2.9 mile out and back trail located near Helena, Montana that offers scenic views. The trail is rated as difficult and primarily used for hiking.
The 1906 is a fairly easy trail. For more of a challenge and for the better in shape, go straight up Powerline and take Prairie Trail or go higher and come down the 1906 back to the trailhead/parking lot. Need ice trekkers in Feb as the snow turns to ice. The varying terrain keeps it interesting.
Excellent views of Helena.
Steady and steep incline but not a bad hike for being so close to town. Nice views as you go along
Great hike! Longer than I thought it would be, but worth the effort.
This trail is definitely tough but worth the hike once you get to the summit!
This was a great trail for a nice day hike. Although it is an in town trail, the fairly dense woods can make you forget you are not away from town. The views from the summit are gorgeous and are well worth the time.
I used to hike on Mount Helena regularly and summited a handful of times. It's definitely a tough one for those who don't hike regularly! I love the mix between woodland and meadows. And the views all around are stunning.
Easy for sure!
Gets lot of use even in winter on a good day. Has an awesome cave as you're going up. Need to be in relatively good shape if you plan on getting to the top. Incredible view of Helena and surrounding areas. Should be a requirement if you're just visiting/new to Helena.
"Must do" trail in the Helena Area! Excellent vistas, well maintained and doable 24/7. It's a climb... 1300ft from downtown, about 1000 from the Adam's Street trailhead, but well worth it. Can be icy but slow and easy will get you there anyway
Because this is an in-town hike, the trail gets a LOT of use. Although it make for an easy access the heavy usage also means that if you are seeking solitude you probably won't find it often on this trail. The 1906 trail is primarily north facing. This means that in winter, once snow is packed down to ice, it does not melt very quickly. Hiking this trail without traction devices that have "teeth" will mean you are bound to end up with a more than your feet hitting the ground.
first off. This trail is rated as Easy, I think that really depends on who you are and what your intent is. Taking your new to hiking young kids? not easy, anyone nit in great ir at least fairly decent shape will not find this an easy trail. its 1.6 miles escalating over 1300 feet on dirt, scree and rocky trails. Mediocre would probabky fit better. its a lovely trail though. I travelled from GF first hike after a resp. illness so I had to stop frequently. I hike often, but this whiped me out, in fairness my health isnt top after being sick. its well worth it when you summit though the views are breathtaking.
