Wire Road Conservation Area Loop is a 2.7 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Crane, Missouri that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips and is best used from March until October.
I was not prepared for the elevation gains at the beginning but I made it. Lower portion after you cross the other parking lot is gorgeous. I believe I will be bringing my children next time to do the lower half.
One of my regular walks. The scenery is always changing with the seasons and the weather. I never get tired of this one.
Excellent fall hike. This place should only get better to go to as the overgrown parts get less dense. Many scenic spots by the creek that runs through the area.
Trail was really over grown and not taken care of very well. The creek is beautiful tho with clear water and trout.
Nice trail - much of it on grass-covered roads. The trail isn’t extremely well marked so have the app open for route finding. There were a couple nice panoramic views, lots of good forest cover for shade during the summer, and a stream on the second half (we went clockwise). The stream was a great place to cool off midway, but the trail was much more overgrown in the areas near the stream so it’s probably best to wear long pants and apply bug spray.
We hiked on a Friday evening and only saw one other group. Very quiet and scenic. Half of the loop is up in the hills, and the other half is along a beautiful stream. We were there early May, and encountered a LOT of poison ivy and ticks. We brought our 2 small dogs and removed over 20 ticks from them. We would return, but with deet bug spray and long sleeves and pants.
Great trail along the creek and through the woods. Beautifuli on October. There is a section of steep rocky inclne that is not suitable for novice or casual hikers.
Beautiful scenery, paths are wide and grassy until you get along the river. Then the narrows. Took my dogs with me and they had a blast! Can’t wait to go back with my horses!
