Weldon Spring Loop is made up sections of three different trails. I started at The Mound, a large stone cover mound of radioactive debris from the clean up of a former uranium processing plant. You can learn the history of this area at the visitor center. Start out on the Hamburg trail, which is unused gravel track, that ends at the Katy Trail. Take a left on the Katy and follow for about 4.5 miles to the Busch Greenway on the left. Busch Greenway is a paved trail that will run up along a creek, through a business park and then fields in Busch Wildlife ending back at The Mound.

Great trail. Some loose gravel but overall great ride. We did it counterclockwise. Mile 5 was a lot of uphill but it was paved. Rode the loop then road into Defiance for lunch.

We went counterclockwise and hit rocky trail downhill. Got to the Katy trail and cruised. The last section of the trail is paved, Bush’s Greenway. It was a great ride. Lot’s of different trails and scenery.

Bike touringBugsGreat!

Reached Weldon Spring Loop via Monarch Levee Trail to the Katy. Biked loop anticlockwise so was able to coast down long 6% grade hill. The trail itself is loose gravel and very uneven with packed stones in places which makes things slightly uncomfortable. There were areas where riding down the middle of the trail helped. Scenery is pretty and varied from large businesses to a lake. Wild flowers are in abundance as are birds and small wildlife. For the history buff many points of interest where small towns used to be in years gone by. Great ride will do again. Maybe clockwise and do the hill challenge.

Fun trail... there are a few moderate grade hills or maybe I’m a wimp! :) Love the loop!

Nice trail, easy to follow. We did the loop clockwise but it would have been fine either way. Definitely recommend.

Good walk and saw lots of different critters. It was mainly gravel and lots of sun light on certain aspects of the trail.

I really enjoyed this trail. It was gravel so no problem if it had rained. Once I got away from traffic and people I let my dog run. It was a great workout for us both. We will take this hike again.

First to Review

The flooding has subsided. The full trail is accessible and in good enough condition. There is 1 large tree down across the path.
