This was a nice little spot tucked on the outside of Joplin. It was quiet with beautiful views of the spring running through. It was perfect for a short afternoon stroll with my 9 month old niece. It’s all paved so taking the stroller worked very well.

WalkingGreat!

Easy trail for all ages. Lots of beauty along the trail consisting of plants and animals. Description says there is a fishing lake, but we only saw a large pond structure that was posted "No Fishing". It is a wonderful little gem that I had never heard about before finding it by accident. Will definitely be back often!

Beautiful area, and very easy walking on a mostly paved trail. Plenty of little sitting areas and views of a creek that winds through the area Great place for family hiking.

4 star because the map didnt mach the trail any more. The kids enjoyed it but some of the bridges are no longer safe. the bug weren't as bad as I thought they would be. lots of birds, butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies. picnic tables for eating away from where you park.

HikingGreat!Over grown

It's a nice walk through the woods on a fairly easy and short trail, and interesting to see the old fish hatchery. The part in the woods is a bit overgrown in places.

Bugs

Apparently this is not one you want to visit during the Summer. it's nothing but a mosquito farm. lots of stagnant water which is a breeding ground for them.

This place had a lot of cool features and some interesting history. It was an old fish hatchery. The lake area is very pretty and there are benches that you can sit and enjoy the view. The nature trails were well-kept and very nice. All ages

Went during a Girl Scout event to prepare these girls for backpacking. The trails are a little overgrown, trail was was wide enough for 2 people but the plants were invading a bit, and some of the trail was washed out but that was expected after all the rain we've had. The trail and creek was still beautiful and a pretty easy hike. Definitely coming back.

Pictures do not do this place justice! The spring that feeds the lake is just outside the property and the water is so gorgeously clear blue. The woods are gorgeous and the trails are very well kept. There is a grill that can be used, and a small fire pit, numerous cement picnic tables throughout

This is more of a light walk. Hardly anyone was there which was really nice. It has some cute little bridge crossing and beautiful scenery

Love coming to Walter Woods. It is definitely more of a walk rather than a hike, but it is a pretty walk. Usually nobody else is there when we visit, which is nice. The trail is paved and well maintained, a few small bridges that cross creeks, and a beautiful stone conservation building. Our dogs love coming here, and is a nice alternative to some of the busier trails around Joplin.

I have been going to this park for years. It is not a hike, it is a light walk. Bird watchers love this path. Perfect for taking kids and dogs on. The trail is paved the whole way through. The "lake" is more of a pond and I believe is only used as a fishing education pond, and I think that recreational fishing is not allowed. An adult looking for exercise is going to have to run this trail, loop through several times, or both. It is wheelchair friendly.

Walter Woods trails are well maintained. I was referred to the site while visiting Wildcat Glades Audubon visitor center. It is more of a walk than a hiking trail so I was disappointed from that regard. However it was a pleasant hike through the woods. It would be great for young kids.
