Donated to the city of Kirkwood a few years ago in honor of his late wife, Dee Koestering Park is home to the former Meramec Highland Quarry. The stone from here was used to build a number of local resorts and contains fossil records you can observe if you look closely. While the overlook is wheelchair accessible - those in need can drive their car in further to an interior parking area - walking down in the quarry itself has some steep grades and requires climbing over some rocks and crossing shallow streambeds. In warmer months, the mosquitoes along the creek can be plentiful. It's a quick hike but a great workout and really unique and lightly traveled park!
