Stunning views of the Missouri River Bluffs, Best hike in Metro Area This is the most scenic hike in the Metro St. Louis Area. Three sections of the trail pass by limestone cliffs and bluff escarpments where hikers enjoy a beautiful view of the Missouri River. These sections require you to take a short spur off of the main trail. The bluffs are usually about 25 yards from the main trail. These sections come up in the first 2 miles of the hike. Moderately strenuous for Missouri hiking. One possible, yet easy, creek crossing in wet weather. Be sure, at the creek crossing, to take the fork that heads NORTH or else you will be doing the full 8.2 mile loop (Lewis Trail).

Always a good hike here. Great views of the river. It can get really bug infested in summertime. Protective clothing and deet are recommended.

This is a nice, scenic trail, but not exactly what I was looking for. Not very long, and it is extremely crowded. Some may enjoy this more than others. If you want seclusion and a long, strenuous trek, hike the Buford Mountain State Forest Trail.

I hiked the Clark loop (5.3 miles) on 6/4/17. The loop took me about 2 hours. Trail was in great condition and well marked. Mosquitos were a problem. I started the loop at about 6am and had the trail to myself. I will be back to complete the Lewis loop soon!

Lewis and Clark Trail (Lewis Trail) is a great day hike that will provide a fantastic workout. There are bluff views of the Missouri River, creek crossings, and miles of forest. You might even spot some wildlife, today we saw deer, plenty of critters, and a box turtle. The 8.2 miles is a trek but my lab/pit mix and I completed in a short 3.5 hours. The majority of the hike is runner friendly but be cautious after rains, muddy and wet slopes. Take note blood suckers are ample, wear long clothing and spray yourself if you choose.

The scenery is just amazing. Definitely bring water and a camera. Many parts of the trail are pretty muddy, however, so be sure to dress appropriately (or bring extra towels for the dogs). Several amazing spots to stop and enjoy the scenery! Easily my favorite trail to hike with the dogs. If you bring dogs, just be aware that the past few times we've visited there has been NO trash can to dispose of poop bags, either in the parking lot or along any part of the path!! VERY VERY BUSY ON WEEKENDS, parking may be difficult!! If you're planning on going on the weekend, be sure to come early!
