Lewis and Clark Trail - Lewis Trail is a 7.4 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near St Charles, Missouri that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until November.
Stunning views of the Missouri River Bluffs, Best hike in Metro Area This is the most scenic hike in the Metro St. Louis Area. Three sections of the trail pass by limestone cliffs and bluff escarpments where hikers enjoy a beautiful view of the Missouri River. These sections require you to take a short spur off of the main trail. The bluffs are usually about 25 yards from the main trail. These sections come up in the first 2 miles of the hike. Moderately strenuous for Missouri hiking. One possible, yet easy, creek crossing in wet weather. Be sure, at the creek crossing, to take the fork that heads NORTH or else you will be doing the full 8.2 mile loop (Lewis Trail).
Great hike and some nice views of the Missouri River. Parking isn't great, lot was full. The Lewis portion of the trail was considerably less busy than the Clark / common sections of the trail.
It's a pretty area, featuring a few very scenic views. The only thing I disliked about this trail is that it's very heavily trafficked.
Great hike. We saw lots of wildlife and beautiful scenery.
The Lewis trail was supposed to take 5 hours but at a moderate pace we completed it in 4.
One of the best I've been on yet! Very scenic! I couldn't find the longer trail, but, that wasn't a huge deal with the amount of time I had. Got a great work out in jogging up the hill from the riverfront, cliff area. I also loved that the trail was dirt!
The scenery is just amazing. Definitely bring water and a camera. Many parts of the trail are pretty muddy, however, so be sure to dress appropriately (or bring extra towels for the dogs). Several amazing spots to stop and enjoy the scenery! Easily my favorite trail to hike with the dogs. If you bring dogs, just be aware that the past few times we've visited there has been NO trash can to dispose of poop bags, either in the parking lot or along any part of the path!!
A very fun trail. Various terrain kept things interesting and the views were fantastic.
This was a very nice trail. Once you get away from the trail head it became very quiet and peaceful. The earlier you hike the better as it is very heavily trafficked and hard to enjoy serenity with the many users. The trail has some spectacular views I absolutely enjoyed.
