This is a new trail that follows the Old Railway through the great Ozarks There are many entrances along the way to the Trail, you can Hike or Bike as far or as short as you want, this is a beatiful trail down the Old Railway Tracks,There are Great views of the several diffrent aspects of the Ozarks from Farms to small Towns along the route that have interesting stops. There are several stops along the way with benchs or places to rest.

We like this trail a lot. Good, flat trail that sometimes goes through little towns, sometimes is in an industrial-park-type area, but is mostly in woods and prairies, in beautiful Ozark country. My only warning is to avoid the last leg, which detours through Bolivar via a frontage road and a main drag. On that stretch—about three miles long—you’re just walking on the side of the road, like a hitch hiker. We didn’t feel safe and it’s not at all pretty. Not sure if they’re ever going to fix the trail so this detour is unnecessary, but until they do, I advise you to stop beforehand.

Beautiful trail for walking or bicycle riding. It has a “country” feel.

we've done this trail in sections, would love to do the whole trail at one time. Is there shuttle service at Boliver or springfield?

Paved for the majority of the way. You can easily walk just a portion of it down and back by parking at the trailheads. Be aware that roads cross the trails periodically.

This trail is great for a beginner looking for an easy trail to start their experience. Lots of shade and not much uphill

I’m partial to this trail as I live about 6 miles from it. It’s mostly flat and is well kept. Great for jogging, walking or biking.

Very nice trail, although heavily populated in areas. Be aware if you take this trail, there are multiple runners, walkers, and bikers that use this along with families.

Pretty good trail other than being a bit rundown in areas.

The first 8-9 miles starting from Springfield until you reach the far end of Willard are paved and well maintained. The trail is then crushed stone for several miles and decently maintained but then gives way to varying degrees of upkeep. Sometimes it's down to a single, very narrow dirt path. Some areas they dumped large gravel unsuitable for any kind of traffic in my opinion. Some areas the trees, shrubs and grass are overtaking the trail. Spiders and their webs stretching across the trail can be so abundant, you'll be stopping every few mintues to wipe all the spiders and webs from yourself and bike. Once freezing weather hits, the spiders will not be an issue. The last 5-6 miles are paved again. There's plenty of shade along most of the trail with a few short open stretches with none. Of course its pretty flat being an old rail line. There's not much in the way of scenery, wildlife or historical sites. There's more foot and bike traffic from Springfield through Willard due to its proximity to more populated areas and being paved. Not that it's terribly busy but If you want less traffic, avoid this section.

Definitely a good trail for biking or walking. Not so much for hiking as it is a flat terrain.

paved trail, more of a Super Highway for Hiking. lots of Bikes. Still a great walk with shade from the heat.

Nice bike ride from Springfield to Willard. plenty of shade along the way.

We've hiked this trail twice in the Walnut Grove area this year. It's a pleasant hike...definitely easy and family-friendly. There's a cool wooden swing, a nice wooden bridge you can stop to eat lunch at...and plenty of great views. Much of the trail has a canopy of trees over it so it often stays cool even during the hotter months.

We love walking this, would also be a great place to ride. We have a little one with a stroller so it is a great place to go. It is a flat walk with the first 8 miles paved. It is a 32 mile walk to boliver. It is also very quiet and moderately busy.

I ran my first marathon here! Flat flat flat !

Great trail that you can make as long as you'd like. The gravel section of the path is smooth enough for road bikes.

I walked the trailhead from Springfield to Willard. The entire trail was paved and VERY flat. It was a bit boring for hiking and seems better for biking or jogging.

Rode from Trail Head at Walnut Grove to Bolivar. This was a great ride. 19.8 miles total.

This trail actually goes all the way to Bolivar. Paved and Chat depending on the area. Several historic bridges. Beautiful 35 miles of trail.

Only did 3 out and 3 back. The section was flat, paved, covered and a nice venue for a run on a hot day.

Fri Oct 14 2011

It is relativily flat, and all PAVED. Not a great hike, but a nice stroll through the Ozarks. Felt a bit too residential though, I always feel akward walking near peoples backyards!

Mon Aug 22 2011

If you want to bike or even just walk this would be a nice trail, but for hiking it was boring. I haven't done the entire trail but what I did do it seems like a sidewalk in the country.
