The river is rated Class One & Two water. The trail is primarily used for canoeing, fishing, and camping. The Current river is the most spring-fed of the Ozark rivers and can be floated year round. Though most would consider the floating season to run from March through November. There are numerous springs, caves, and points of historic interest on the Current River. Float trips can range from a few hours to a week. It is well known for its fabulous trout fishing. The Ozark Mountains, which the Current flows through, is replete with many special scenic wilderness areas. You can even canoe back into a cave on the upper portion of the river. The river is managed by the national park service and camping is allowed anywhere along the river.

We went on a Saturday and Sunday. We tried fishing in Saturday but there was way to many people, and a lot of drinking. Sunday was awesome, we'll do it again, but not on a Saturday.

Grew up on this stretch of the river. One of the most beautiful places. Lots of trails, fishing, hunting, and canoeing opportunities. Summer is very hectic with tourists. I've quit going on the weekends because of the # of people. Autumn is perfect...less people....amazing colors.

I've canoed here many times summer months are crowded. Winter is a great time to float this river.

I have done this stretch of river four or five times now over the years. Cedar Grove is the furthest up stream you can put in on the Current. This is a nice casual day float, and I think the best because the river is narrower here.

Great float river and for trout fishing. Along this stretch their is a number of springs, remains of an old resort/hospital, a small cave you can canoe back into, and more. camping is allowed on the sandbars. Great simple float for kids and families, but very scenic for everyone.

The Current River is my favorite camping location. We usually find a place near the banks, and avoid the public camping grounds. It's so relaxing to swim or to walk up and down the river for a little adventure. Don't forget to say hi to all the canoes headed downstream! There's all kinds of unmarked trails snaking around, too. The River is an awesome place to spend an outdoor weekend!
