Getting There

The Castle trail is an ADA accessible trail leading to the castle ruins and lake overlook. Access to the ruins of a 20th century castle and spectacular views of Lake of the Ozarks make Castle Trail one of the parks most popular trails. Castle Trail can be accessed from either of the two castle parking lots. The upper lot has limited parking and is recommended for people with disabilities and elderly. More parking is offered at the lower lot, which is the first lot you come to. From the lower parking lot, a shaded walk through an open oak woodland area takes hikers to where the trail joins the upper portion. Here, there are two side views of the carriage house ruins. There is a water fountain at this junction and an interpretive kiosk with information on the parks cultural history. The upper portion of trail features three scenic overlooks. There are 12 park benches along the trail.

Parking Lot. Full amenities you expect at a state park, RV to tent camping.

Nice scenic trail. I notice there is two additional trail that hasn’t been mention. A short hard lake trail and a moderate medium trail Quarry trail. So there more for a season hiker.

Very easy trail. Great for kids and elderly people as well. Flat service so if you have a wheelchair you can also get around. Beautiful views of the spring below as well as the castle ruins all the way around. I can’t get up to the castle anymore because it’s unsafe but you can walk on three sides of it.

We lucked out and went at a slow time. Great, clean, easy paved trail and tons of interesting reads around. More for a history lesson rather than a nature trail. We just popped by after a day of hiking other trails.

All asphalt trail. The views were good at the top and the ruins were interesting, but it was overly crowded and didn’t provide the out in nature feel. We actually did this trail twice because the first time we got caught in a ridiculous downpour and didn’t get to finish, Although it was really fun for us and the kids to run in a driving rain. It was surreal to hear the rain coming before it hit. This was actually fun for us and the most memorable occurrence on our vacation.

Trail to castle was paved, clean, heavy traffic. Castle was an old home - not from the area so I was hoping for exploring castle ruins. Beautiful area. Water fountain and maps available on this run.

Stunning views at every turn! The trail to Natural Bridge was awesome with even more spectacular views. We went Mother’s Day weekend and it was very crowded, but still enjoyable. Didn’t get to see the spring area, but will definitely go back to explore more. Highly recommend!

I loved this adventure. Little disappointed they have the castle blocked off you can’t walk in the castle anymore you have to admire from the outside only.

They kind of shut the castle down so you can’t go inside anymore. Small fence around the property so you just get a couple of pictures of the outside and walk around it. Other than that it’s completely paved and there is a small parking lot next to it if you don’t want to take the stars to get to the top.

I mean it had a castle, what else do you need in a hike?! Nice easy trail. Great one for dogs on leashes and kids. Nice wide trail to allow for the high number of hikers present on this trail

We arrived at 8am and the trail was very peaceful with only one other family there at that time. The trail has a nice, wide paved pathway to the castle (as I am sure it gets busy) and then many connecting tails from the castle for longer hikes. The trail has pretty lookouts to the lake and the park that are spread out along the trail. Highly recommend the trail.

Easy trail. Always fun to go look at the castle! Wood fencing looks much nicer than the orange construction fence. Just wish you could still go to the back side of the castle and look inside. #naturalerosion
