Start at the parking lot and head south across the newly constructed bridge then head up the switchback to the first node where Carter cemetery resides. The trails meandors through the woods in a East SouthEast direction before going south. 1/4 of the way through there is a Yellow trail shortcut. At times water may be up and you must look for a ford to make any crossings. Generally the water is very low.

Great local trail somewhat downgraded for consistency in marking the trail

If you go after a good rain there is a lovely cascading waterfall about 2 blocks before you reach the river.

Was unable to find a place to cross the creek in one direction in the loop without trekking through water which is too cold this time of year so did not complete this trail but hiked the red trail and some side trails.
You'll likely be hearing gunshots from the shooting range in this park as well as the highway traffic noise so don't go out expecting it to be just you and the sounds of nature.

Awsome trail. Rough and steep in some areas so don't think this trail is a "walk in the park." If you walk this trail make sure you are in shape, and use a trekking pole. Really nice scenes. About 3 hour walk.

Favorite go to when we want something close. Access to creek and great views of the Ozark Mountains. Some rocky terrain, but manageable.

I hiked this and part of the red trail. At the beginning you come across a small, pretty graveyard. There is a little bench to sit near the graveyard as well.
