Did the Purple/White loops and enjoyed every second of it. Trails are well blazed, often with spray paint on the trees. A lot of flat walking with easy switch backs for any elevation change. You do share the trail with horses so at times the trail is muddy and trampled but not really an issue. Yes, there is a shooting range but hikers are in no danger, though you can hear the shooters for most of the trail.

Nice short and easy trail on the purple loop. Even though we were close to the highway I didn’t hear it much during the hike. I went clockwise but wish I had gone counter clockwise because most of the elevation gain was at the end at the switch backs to the parking lot and I think that would have been a good starting place instead. Pretty muddy in some places, a couple creek crossings but the water was pretty low for my visit. Came across horseback riders, trail runners, and other hikers with dogs. All very friendly and courteous. You can hear the shooting range from the trail but I went and hit the trail around 10 and there wasn’t anyone there yet. Maybe the earlier the better to avoid so much noise.

White trail needs to be much better blazed. Lost confidence that I was on trail when I came across an end of public use area sign, and trail turned to logging road. Was probably on course, but couldn’t get a signal with at&t to start trail anywhere including the trailhead, and didn’t want to be lost with my 50lb rig. The white blazes are faded and difficult to discern from sun shining through the trees this time of year. Otherwise it was fine. Mostly old roads, decent hill on orange trail, but no views. Gunshots can be heard for about half of the hike. Range is closed mondays if that’s bothersome. Might do again if I’m in the area, but I wouldn’t drive out again for it.

A nice long hike today. I came across a few people along the trail but for a significant amount of time it was solitary.

We did all three trails and it was 9.5 miles. It was moderate with some steep inclines and also some flat easy parts. Not a lot of vistas but a nice nature walk.

We arrived at Busiek forest to hike the trails there but decided against it due to all the "WARNING ACTIVE SHOOTING RANGE" signs surrounding the trail. Yes, they had a shooting range at the trailhead. After hearing all the shots around us, we quickly left and went to another trail.

Set out to do all three trails-white, orange & purple. Finished the white & orange loops and logged close to ten miles. Beautiful and dry this time of year. Crossed Camp Creek several times but no water. I will be back in the spring when the water is flowing. This would also make a great winter hike especially the orange trail.

I had to hike 6 miles before I saw anything but service road and forest. The trails were dry as a bone, so all expected “water” crossings were simply rock beds. Finally on the Orange Trail I could see where, if there were water, it would be beautiful. I stopped for lunch at a rock outcropping. At mile 9, I was finally rewarded with a view of the Ozark. Although they show this combination of trails as 8.4 miles, my Strava GPS recorded 9.7 miles and the paths were identical. Overall, a bit disappointed, I was hoping for waterfalls, creek crossings and views - basically a bust! Perhaps I hit it at the wrong time of year. If you like an easy forest hike in the shade, this is for you. The most exciting part of this hike were the two armadillos that crossed my path. If I had to do this again, I would start with the purple trail and do as much of the Orange that you like - then reverse it.

Excellent hike, if it wasn’t for the shooting range. Great views on the purple trail though, so just plug in some music to drown out the shots. Well maintained and fun hike, and if you’d like to do all three in one go then start with the white, then orange and then purple. You’ll be rewarded with a great view just before finishing up.

Great trails! I did the Orange twice because it was my favorite. A little tricky in spots because of horse tracks and mud.

Absolutely fantastic trail. They orange section was by far my favorite section - lots of little waterfalls. It was very muddy, and I totaled 5 water crossings that were unavoidable; be prepared to deal with wet feet. Very rocky and tough, but 100% worth it.

This was a beautiful hike, can’t wait to go back and see more of the trail. It has great views of the Ozark mountains. I saw a fair number of people but it wasn’t too many. The nearby gun range can be quite loud and does somewhat take away from the atmosphere, unless you like that kind of thing (the range is closed on Mondays so you can avoid the noise if you want). The trail has a good mix of shaded and non shaded places that can give you a break from the sun. The hills can be rather steep in some places, not dangerously so, just a good workout. I did encounter a whole ton of ticks and nats at times, would definitely recommend lots of bug spray (note I went in August other times of year probably won’t see the same problem). If you go after is rains, like I did, expect plenty of mud. All and all a very beautiful hike. Will be going again.

Always a pleasure. I sometimes forget how lucky we are to have so many amazing trails like this so close to Springfield. It took me a while to explore the trails on the west side of the highway, but they offer some wonderful scenery. I was also pleasantly surprised to see a group out clearing up the trails.

Horse Riders...there is a tree down half way down orange trail so you might not be able to cross .....Where to begin, the trail is great the white side is lots of moss covered rocks and trees with lots of low water crossings, the orange side has lots of water falls with little over hangs and the purple side puts you on a steep hill up but rewards you with a nice walk way at the top, overall I give this trail 4 stars only because the gun range being so close to the trail really distracts from the beauty when you have people playing at the bottom it echoes off everything.
