After heading through a wooded creek valley, the trail enters an open expanse of tallgrass prairie. It then alternates between wooded savanna and open prairie, until the loop returns through the creek valley and back up to the parking lot.
Nice easy hike - a lot of the area looked like it had been burned not sure if it was a controlled burn or a natural burn or maybe something else but it was a pretty good hike overall.
Nice hike. Variety of terrain. Next time I will do after a rain. Most the creeks were dry
Nice mix of prairie and forest. Wildflowers should be plentiful over next few weeks. Trail is very overgrown in places. Be sure to wear tick repellant.
Enjoyable hiking trail, great way to experience Missouri woodland and prairie. Easy to complete in less than an hour at a steady pace and still enjoy scenery.
Pleasant hike; best for a wide variety of ecosystems and to view results of prescribed burns. Small streams, open woodland and prairie. Watch signs carefully; the trail loops in a couple of places and it is easy to follow a loop twice.
