It was a nice hike but we were lunch for lots of mosquitoes. We went on 9/30/18. I will go back again but next time will make sure to put on Mosquito repellent.

great beginner trail

The trail itself is great: not completley flat, has hills and incline, near the river, pretty scenery. I went in July so the humidity and smell was worse since it was so close to a body of water, and the place was crawling with daddy long legs. They were everywhere. Creepy.

Big trees and nice views.

Absolutely loved! Easy trail and very low traffic. I saw one person during my entire walk. View of the river is stunning! Will definitely come back.

A little muddy but a nice hike.

Signage and marking was not great. The ice flow and low water levels was worth it!

Saw several tufted titmice & a house wren. Heard Blue Jays & Woodpeckers in the distance. Beautiful changing hike, some of it along the river.

not always open but a good hiking trail. we did this with cub scouts (2nd grade) without complaints!

Did all the trails - was mostly flat and very easy - signage could have been a lot better - one good viewing area of the river!!

I run this when flooding doesn't ruin my plans. It floods easily at the entrance, and there is a sign at the trailhead that will tell you if trail is closed or not. Only receives 4 stars for this reason. Take the long way on the Sandy Loop to get the longest loop and have lots of twists and turns. Head up the middle for a short hike to see the river quickly. Trail seriously needs a raised path or concrete to get across the creek to the trails. This is the months long mud that prevents access when it floods.

This trail is close to a major highway but you'd never know it. Easy for kids and nice views of the river.

Nice flood area scenery and peaceful setting!

It was a really cute trail, a bit muddy but fun. It was definitely easy and short enough that next time I would bring the kids. You're also going to want to bring bug spray.

a fun quick trail, lots of sand in on the northern loop due to flooding. Will make it a bit more difficult for bikes.

I love this trail because it's close and there are a couple different loops to increase difficulty. Main trail is easy enough to take my 7yr old son on, but still has a few hills and bunny hops

Trail was under water on 5/29/16

Great little area right off the Katy Trail! Little creek at the beginning is a fun place for kids to explore without getting into much mischief.

Enjoy riding the island but 2 out of 3 times we have, we encountered creepy people at the bench. I guess it's a good place for transients. Be cautious.

A walk through some people's back yards. I took my family on one of the warm 70 degree days we had in February, so I was a little disappointed.

Probably a nice feature for kids who live in the area, but I wouldn't drive to this one as a hiking destination.

I have used this trail several times. connects up to the Katy, just south of the casinos. Walked it about 4 years ago in Feb when the river was low and it was warm. Walked out into the middle of the river on a sandbar, which was neat in itself. Nice area to escape the suburban life while being close to home.

A mostly level trail that holds water well. A nice walk in the woods with river views and highway noise used often by bicyclists.

A surprise to find a well maintained wooded hiking/running trail. Almost empty on a weekday afternoon. Connected to Main Street St. Charles by the Katy Trail. Limited parking near the trail head but worth the time for beautiful views and fun turns.

Nice singletrack/hiking trail located off 5th St. in St. Charles right next to the Katy Trail. Trail is well maintained with views of the MO river and river bottoms.

Hike the river heading south, or you'll be staring at an obnoxious river boat casino. Noise from I-70 is ever-present. Otherwise, a nice hike.

Nice easy trail for walking. Lightly used. Kept maintained. One big loop which will take you parallel to the Missouri. Plenty of deer on the island. Can not reach in high water as the trail goes thru a slough. Parking is along a St. charles City street and limited. Plus the access easement is thru private property, so stay on the path. At the end, if going countrer clockwise, the trail is a bit hard to follow, but you can't get lost. Just remember if you get disoriented, just walk towards the interstate sound. You are always surrounded by St. Charles City.
