This trail is not an out and back trail, once you reach the shutins there is a trail that goes up into some rocky glens, and loops back around to the parking lot. We saw a bunch of lizards and skinks up there! Even some cactus?! The shutins themselves are gorgeous, we scrambled up the rocks on the north (east) side of the river and found a way back across downstream. I honestly can't wait to go back and explore, Amidon CA seems to be much bigger than just that one little stretch of river.

beautiful area. Better during off season. Can get a little trash ridden throughout the busy season unfortunately.

On one side it is pretty, but on the other, it was like going into a trailer full of roaches. People were everywhere and loud. It probably is amazing during the off season. BTW, I'm not saying people are roaches, just there were a lot of people.

Great little easy hike down to the best known swimming hole in SE Missouri. Beautiful Rock formations, chutes and rapids form swimming pools everywhere. Note to self, don't come here on Memorial Day.

My absolute favorite park to visit in Missouri!!! I actually don't tell everyone because it's my little hidden spot that not everyone knows about!!! Awesome swimming spot!

We came here to hike and seen a few reviews online that sparked our attention! Ended up loving it! It's definitely a hidden jewel. I strongly suggest following the directions to get there. Amazing terrain and a few great Geo-cache sites available!

This is a great (short) hike to get a peek at the Castor River Shut-Ins. It's only about a 1 mile loop to the Shut-Ins and back, but you can do more exploration off the trail if you wish. Also known as "Pink Rock", Amidon has lots to offer -- especially in the Summer when you can swim -- but also in the Spring and Fall if you are looking for a quick trip to get some fresh air. The trail itself is not paved, but it is fairly even terrain (not really stroller or wheelchair friendly). I see lots of folks walking their dogs too! My only complaint is that I wish it were longer.

Really it's just a nice path to the great Castor Shut-in. Well worth it to explore or swim in the summer

Amazing river! Mild Rapids roll over beautiful pink boulders. The trail is well kept to the swimming areas. Past that the loop is a little less traveled but still beautiful! Bring swim shoes (very slick rocks!)

It was a decent trail, runs along the Castor River Shut-ins. The trail is kind of hard to follow after you pass the first big pool though and is grown over a bit. I last went during the early summer though so I might try it this winter to see if the trail is better. There were also some primitive camp sites. Make sure you check in with the conservation dept before you camp there though. Good swimming hole there too!

This trail is named the cedar glade trail. It is more decriptive to refer it to the shut-ins. Great summr destination. Natural water play ground.

We arrived early in the morning and almost had the place to ourselves. It was incredible. The water was amazing. Hiked the trail before the crowds came in.
