Lots of downed trees along trail. Had to carry and lift bikes numerous times. It’s a great trail just need some maintenance after the storms.

Fun and easy trail even for a 4 year old except there were a LOT of trees down from recent storms that were laying across the trail. We had to climb over them. At one point there were so many we thought we were going to have to turn around. It was also very muddy in some areas. 4/2020

We love this trail and do it all the time. If it’s been raining then it’ll definitely be muddy so I’d definitely recommend hiking boots.

You can choose a 1, 2, 3, or 5 mike hike by following the colored trail markers. On the 2 mile hike i saw a snake, a raccoon, a large frog, many butterflies and birds, and plenty of mosquitoes. Lovely trail, bring bug spray.

The North Outlet Nature Trail is an easy five mile hike that begins at the Arkabutla Dam Spillway Picnic Area. Lots of wildlife viewing possibilities. The trail begins in a hardwood bottomland and gradually climbs to a an upland hardwood and pine forest with several grassy wildlife openings. The trail is well maintained by the Corps of Engineers. Beware there are snakes in some of the swampy areas including cottonmouth moccasins so watch your step.
