Getting There

This trail is experiencing full or partial closure (parking lot and bathrooms) due to COVID-19. Please see park website for alternate hiking options. Hike over and around water tupelo, baldcypress swamp. This is very short hike right off the Natchez Trace Parkway. A good one to take a family with a little one that is impatient. You gover over some bridges that are on top of a baldcypress swamp. Some really unique scenery. Very good trails and trailhead is right off the Parkway.

National Park Service - 1-800-305-7417

Very Easy to find since is it right off of the Natchez Trace Parkway. It is at milepost 122.

Usually a great trail but Right now due to a storm several weeks ago, it is closed. Lots of trees down.

Easy stroll. The trail is maintained well. We went in March just as flowers were blooming. No bugs yet and cool weather.

It was raining when I went— best time to go in my opinion. No bugs, no heat, no tourists. I heard a good amount of birds and frogs. I did see a couple of thrush. A few mushrooms but nothing too impressive. A nice trail for a casual walk. Except for the beginning and end no grade at all. Pretty wet when I was there so wear good shoes if you go in winter.

Perfect if you have little ones. Plenty for their eyes to see. My kids love this trail. It is very short and sweet but is wonderful to savor. We enjoy trying to find the baby gators sunning!

I've not seen this but I have ridden the parkway 3 times on a motorcycle, I leaned about this on a yahoo travel article as one of the "25 best places in the US, to stop and look at". It'll be kickstand down next time I pass by.

Some sections allow horses. Definitely bring trout bug spray for the skeeters. It’s a nice peaceful trail close enough to civilization if you need it.

Really beautiful, and an easy "hike". DO NOT go without insect repellant!!! The mosquitoes were unbelievable, but I guess you expect that in a swamp in Mississippi in early September!! Cool pictures...I didn't see any alligators or snakes, thank goodness. Don't miss it if you're on the Natchez Trace. It's worth a trip in any case.

Short but sweet. Excellent signage along the way describing the trees and the role this swamp plays in the surrounding environment. Learn mostly what you are looking at in the water are water tupelo trees and not cypress. A don't miss if you are traveling on the Natchez Trace and need to stretch your legs for 15 or so minutes.
