Great views and interesting history/geology lessons along the way. Heavy traffic in the main stretch but almost empty in the back half of the loop - not much to see back there, but peaceful. Very well-marked trail with maps at every junction, so you can mix and match a bit and make your own adventure.

Enjoyable hike. Great views of the river and various waterfalls on the out and back section. Bit of a rocky scramble in parts. The forest loop was much less crowded, very peaceful, but a bit buggy.

Love this trail!! Nice & easy the whole way through :)

Beautiful views of the river.

VERY POPULAR TRAIL. Lots of people. Super gorgeous though, it's no wonder. Raging waterfalls that carved pot holes and canyons into the earth. Follow my instagram for more adventures @julie_journeys

Hiked with a 2 year old on my back and a 5 and 7 year old. Did just fine without spikes or snowshoes for most of the section along the temperance river. When you get off that main trail though, snowshoes are a good idea— was fence polling often! Pretty early on there is a steep climb that is very icy. Other than that there’s not much difficulty. Certainly a beautiful trail with amazing views and water falls.

took plenty of photos along the way plenty of open areas to stop and look. fun winter trail

Snowshoeing Dec22 2019. Trail up along river had steep, narrow, rocky snow-filled icey stairs we couldn’t negotiate so we went looking for alternatives. Parked in snowmobile parking lot 1/4 mi East of river, walked 100 yards up groomed snowmobile trail to Gitchee Gami bike trail - not groomed but great snowshoeing. Had it to ourselves. Beautiful and HIGHLY recommend.

so beautiful. trails can be a little confusing, and maps are really not much help (they key has nothing for the "you are here" tag), but gorgeous.

Absolutely gorgeous trail that follows the Temperance River. The sheer power of water is well illustrated here. The water smoothly cuts a passage through the massive rock structures leaving caverns and cascading waterfalls. If you travel up the river a ways the gentle babble of the river rushes onward, molding rocks into smooth spheres that line the shores and provide comfortable seating to wet your feet. Dragonflies zip around and butterflies sample the flowers along the shore as the gentle hum of the river fills the cool Superior air. There are plenty of places to swim in the river if you feel so inclined, although signs recommend to do otherwise. The path to the second waterfall was less traveled and less evident. Multiple paths lead from the trail to the rocky river shore which allow you to explore the second waterfall up close, but do so at your own risk. As you continue on the main trail loop the sound of the water gently fades away and your soon left with only the sounds of your footprints. The namesake of the river reminds you of the sharp contrasts of force and passivity that come together to create the balance of the land.

We got a little turned around and off the trail. Had that not happened, this would have been a 5⭐️ hike. Our four children (ages 9-15) all loved climbing on the rocks by the river, but my husband was very nervous that they’d slip and fall.

Beautiful along the River. Didn’t do the loop because once you pass the falls it leads you through the woods with mowed grass trail. Very buggy away from the River.

Easy hike. Be sure to hike the mile back to the upper falls. Very scenic along the way.

Gorgeous trail along the river leading to multiple waterfalls.

You can visit the special scenic area, which would be a short but scenic hike. This loop takes you beyond the falls and shut-ins. The trail beyond the falls if a mere walk through the woods, thus a rating of 3, 5 for the falls, 3 for the loop.

Great hike and the views make the uphill worth it! Trekking poles are a necessity.

Easy to access, but crowded trail. Dog-friendly. Requires some careful footing at times, but overall a fairly easy hike for most people. River is forceful, rugged, and impressive. Several great viewpoints. Worth a quick hike, even if you skip the wooded portion of the loop in favor of just seeing the river.

Hiked this in the drizzling rain, so couldn’t get as close to the sides, as I normally would have, but this river/falls are Spectacular. Slot canyons, reminiscent of Utah, in Minnesota. Loved this easy hike.
