Quaking Bog Loop is a 1.2 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Minneapolis, Minnesota that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from May until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
It is very nice to have a preserve like this in the city. The trails are distinct but if you are looking to escape to nature, this isn’t the ideal spot. Wherever you are on your hike, you can always see another trail. September was a little overgrown too. The bog is pretty cool.
Rugged and fun, watch out for the mountain bikers if you’re walking! Very courteous though
If you aren’t familiar with Theo Wirth parkway, it’s very confusing which trials are for hiking and which for mountain biking. The bog itself was very nice, but we got twist turned around in between bikers shortly after and it felt like a nightmare. Even though we live a few minutes away, I felt like the quintessential lost tourist and no matter looking at the signs or using GPS, couldn’t figure out which trail to use to finish the loop. We ended up walking back on the road.
Honestly, this wasn’t my favorite trail. When hiking this trail, I expected it to be around a large area of bog, but we quickly learned there was only a small section of bog. The bog was beautiful, I just wish there had been more of it. The rest of the trail went through some woods and a very small section of prairie. It was very hard to navigate even with the app, and a portion of trail was parallel to the freeway so it was very noisy. We also realized that a portion of the trail was on a mountain biking path, so that definitely was a challenge to hike. The woods and bog were very pretty, but I don’t think it was worth the drive out there.
Great trail and trail conditions. The bog is very unique! However, I am used to trails being marked with a color or a name. It was difficult to figure out which trail we were supposed to be on when in the park. I had to keep referring to the GPS. My recording shows how to access the park by bike from the Hopkins/St. Louis Park area.
Super crowded, must pay to park. Some trails are marked closed even though people are all over them. It’s a popular but overrated place imo.
OMG OMG this trail is GORGEOUS. I would 10/10 recommend for any season. I cannot wait to do it again. Just like oh my gosh I was in heaven it’s so pretty. Literally so happy & there were so many paths as well!! Just bravo.
Beware-some of the trails at Wirth are closed, but still plenty open to explore!
This route goes to the bog, but not into the bog. Cross the bridge. Bog is awesome.
We did this loop twice today, a few days after all that rain froze in the Twin Cities. The trail was walkable without too much difficulty due to ice. It’s a short loop, not quite my favorite considering all the great trails we have around the cities. It has some mild elevation changes and twists and turns which kept things interesting.
