Minnehaha Creek Trail is a 1.8 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Fort Snelling, Minnesota that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
In the wintertime, sections of this trail or the staircases may be closed. One of the bridges is closed for repair (December 2020). Nice trail to hit while in the Twin Cities, with places you can view the falls.
Trail is best used in warmer months. The stairs down to the trail have Closed signs. I think its because they won't be doing winter maintenance. Also the right side of the trail is closed. I eventually went over there and it's really icy and the bridge is a little unsafe. I love going to the shore and taking in the view. There are great side path up the hills. Be careful because you might find a tent. Overall it's decent.
Trail on the south side of the creek is “closed.” It’s passable but is muddy and icy. The trail on the north side of the creek is wide and an easy walk to reach the Mississippi River.
Nice trail to hit while in the Twin Cities. It is busy on the weekend and the brush could be cleared from places that would be ideal to lookout on the falls. I would return on a weekday.
Graffiti is prevalent throughout the park. A trail section is closed because the raised surface is in disrepair. The bridge nearest the Mississippi River is closed because erosion threatens its collapse. Squatters appear to have taken up residence above the trail. The trail provides a fun urban adventure, but little sense of nature.
Parts of the trail are currently closed, including a bridge, due to poor maintenance.
Part of the trail is closed and poorly maintained. There is a bridge/pathway that is closed and then a bridge to cross once you’ve reached the halfway point and are about to turn around. Either plan on turning around at certain points or use the roped off pathways & bridges at your own risk. The trail is neat and definitely worth it, but I’d plan on finding alternate routes in many areas.
One side was blocked, unsure why. Overall pretty easy trail. Lots of people.
A nice trail with several small footpaths to explore. It follows the creek and ends at the confluence with the river. There is a small beach area that is very scenic. On the return side of the loop, the bridge and boardwalk are marked closed, but many people were on it anyway (including myself).
The trails weren’t marked very well . So we had a hard time finding the correct one and missed half the trail.
Parts of the trail are closed due to damage and washouts. Other than that great weather and fun short hike.
I also walked through Coldwater Spring, through the off- leash dog park area, near fort Snelling and back. I’ve lived here my whole life and never explored the trails around Minnehaha. Do it! Went on a Monday, midday, and even then it was busy by the waterfall, but not bad once you got further away. IG: @shantastic.life
Park is sometimes super crowded, with graffiti and trash always within sight. However, when it is quiet here it truly is a good mix of terrain backlit by the sound of the stream from the falls. The bridge at the end has been flooded most of the times I have went but when it's not there's an area where people "swim" though I don't recommend swimming in that water.
Never again. Paid to park, AND, got a ticket. Minneapolis rioters can burn buildings, but you cannot park in the park and be a good citizen. Lot's of trash on trails, over grown, and disrepair.
