Fun to do once! Long but not overly challenging. Most of the trail was SUPER muddy when we went.

The middle falls trail is roughly 5 miles long roundtrip. It's not easy by any means, and not meant for the casual hiker - small children will not do well on this hike. Hiking shoes are recommended. You will get muddy. We saw a family with 3 small kids, all in flip flops turn around after struggling to make it through. It's a lot of uphill/downhill rugged terrain through the forest; much of which is walking through tree roots, rocks and a lot of mud. It's probably one of the most rewarding hikes with the beautiful, intimate forest setting. Great deer viewing.

It's a long trail, but not overly difficult. Every time you think you're there (hear the water), you're not even close! It provides beautiful outlooks on both the Lake Superior side and the west side over the forest.
