Karlee Friese recorded Mazomani Trail
Wow. Super muddy. Fun because we got to off trail but definitely could have been better maintained. But always an adventure.
This trail has some beautiful overlooks of the Louisville Swamp and Minnesota River Valley. The trail winds through large meadow lands and oak Savannah, dipping into lower, more swampy areas. The low areas can be flooded in Spring and following heavy rains... I'd definitely recommend the hike. Note that the bridge is out where the causeway crosses the swamp making it impossible to do the entire loop at this time. The swamp looks like a large lake in Spring and early Summer. The area is teeming with wildlife. Take your binoculars!
Trail flooded at mile 1.4 as of 8/5/19. I found out by taking the long way around Louisville Swamp which was muddy, chest high overgrowth, and no trail at times. Worse conditions than BWCA trails, which is exactly what I was suited for :-)
Sign said loop is closed due to flooding and gate was closed but foot traffic had clearly walked around. Path was about ankle deep sometimes higher with overgrowth. I was unable to proceed due to mud and knee high overgrowth as I approached the river. Still a great day. No one else on the trail (midweek). I added a photo should someone care to see trail condition.
Trail hasn’t been traveled much due to the flooding. Well-marked, easy to follow.
mazomani into louisville is a great hike.
