The trail has many merits. We visited in a drought so no mosquitoes. Unfortunately the path we took was not a loop. We parked at the trailhead near the Renaissance Festival, not far from the Severs Corn Maze. We crossed the creek, saw the farm, heard and saw some beautiful sounding and looking birds—maybe cranes? We passed the cool climbing boulder with lots of climbers on it. Then we ended up passing through someone’s private property to another trailhead that was a few miles from the trailhead where our car was parked. It seemed the only way to get to the car would be to walk down 169! Fortunately a random Uber was available and we got a lift to our car. We had two giant anxious dogs with us who wouldn’t have done well walking further and naturally couldn’t get in someone else’s car. Someone who knows the trails could do a real Public service by marking them clearly and adjusting the map at the Renaissance Fair entrance so newbies like us don’t think they can walk a loop around the swamp.

Not too heavily trafficked the day we went. Attempted to do the 4.5 mile loop but no signage once you get past the prairie. Very disappointing. Ended up going out & back 6+ miles after getting lost. Thankfully we were not in a hurry. Recommend you download a map if you don't want to get lost.

The first part is really nice as you walk along the Prairie. Once you get into the deep woods, though it is beautiful to look at, the mosquitoes were so bad we had to turn back. Maybe we will try a different time of the year.

don’t do the 4.5 mile trail unless you want a 6 mile trail. There is no way to complete the loop and no shortcut across the River? Creek? Super disappointing that there were no signs to indicate that we couldn’t finish the 4.5 mile loop.

Beautiful trail. Make sure you stop at the boulder and check that big boy out! Definitely some muddy spots on the trail but nothing you can’t walk around and continue on.

Most of the trail was good, just one of the path branches where the “swamp” was located was partially underwater and unable to cross.

DO NOT HIKE THIS TRAIL THIS TIME OF YEAR. Flood's Road across the swamp (at Jab's Farm) is impassable. The trail is incredibly muddy as well. Furthermore, if you attempt to finish the loop by hiking west along the Minnesota River another foot bridge is flooded out. We had to wade through three feet of ice cold water to make it back to the car. We were losing light and turning back wasn't an option. I gave it 5 stars because we hike here all the time in the summer and it's great. Right now it's awful.

Check this area out. Today I came in from the Jordan end of trail. Did 7.3 miles. Easy trail. The ice is the problem now. As it is with most trails I've been on. Trail is on River. Runs into a maze of trails that is in the Louisville swamp area. Saw no other people. Would be tough to do this trail in warmer weather because of the mud. So get out and enjoy all this area before the spring thaw. Lots of peaceful miles of trails to enjoy.

Louisville Swamp area is a gem. Just a short drive outside of the Twin Cities and along Hwy 169, but remote enough with this in mind. Nestled among an oak Savannah, the prairie trail curls down to follow the quiet and winding Minnesota river. Known to flood, plan accordingly, and be open to detours. There are old ruins of a farm from a bygone era, a rather large boulder from an even longer passed era, and vast and sweeping views of prairie and river. A quintessential south-central Minnesota landscaping, this hike is perfect for a weekend afternoon. (Hiked: October/2018)

Great area to see frogs, birds, old farms, and other animals. Be careful of weather, area gets flooded easily with heavy rainfall. nice wetland area to hike around

Beautiful area. Much larger than expected. Upkeep of the trails leaves something to be desired. A lot of it was overgrown and some trails that show on the map are not accessible due to it being overgrown. The trail signs are a bit difficult to know how far and what direction it will truly be going unless you are looking at a map. Due to flooding a very large section of trail is under water and not accessible at this current time. A lot of nature to see. Beautiful fields, forest area and the lake. Some of the swamp area was mucky and a bit hard to navigate. Overall a great trail, not many visitors. So very peaceful. Plan ahead to carry any trash you have as there were no trash bins in the area.

I've been here multiple times, usually in the spring. Beautiful place, not too much foot traffic, and a lot to explore in the area. A forewarning: if you go off trail, you are going to pick up lots of ticks. You shouldn't get too many (if any) if you stick to the trail though.
