Lester River Trail and Amity East is a 5.1 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Duluth, Minnesota that features a great forest setting and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
I loved the trail...started right in Lester Park rather than the trailhead listed here. Went counter clockwise. The first 2 miles are AMAZING! After that it is also beautiful...however...the trails isn’t clearly marked as you return south. You can’t get lost...because there are multiple ways to return to the park...but it’s frustrating to find the actual trail. I ended up in the road for a while. Yak Trax or micro spikes are an absolute must. It also totals about 6 miles.
Beautiful trail, though very icy. Had a nice loop with great wintery views.
Lots of nice views, but a lot of trails are beaten down from all the bikers. Definitely more of a moderate trail with a lot of ups and downs!
Beautiful trail! Have to have a map with you. I used map trail from the app. I think I would get lost without it. Over all dry nice. Good for hiking and biking. Would be awesome for skiing in the winter. Definitely coming back!
Nice recovery hike. Well set up for mountain biking with lots of rolling hills and occasional waterfall
Great trail! I wasn’t on it the whole way, more wandering in and out with my dogs, but beautiful scenery and lots of river access for water breaks
Tucked away on the north end of Duluth, this was a pleasant hike. The views were beautiful and at times peaceful. It was a fairly high trafficked area, perhaps it was the day. Trail comes complete with various terrains, flowing water, and a nice waterfall. We hiked this with our family, a five year old and an English bulldog (who by no means was built for the great outdoors,) and all managed nicely. This trail is worth seeking out. (Hiked April/2015)
Trail is becoming overgrown by tall grass. It’s also very difficult to follow as there are not cross country ski trails & mountain biking trails that cross over it in several places. Epilepsy who previously commented about seeing bikers were likely on the amity west trail instead.
