The lake is pretty busy, but a well maintained loop and easy biking.

I took my rollerskates out on this trail last week. I’m fairly new to roller skating so was just looking to get some beginner practice in. The section of the loop that starts near the main beach to the other side of the cedar avenue bridge is really not ideal for beginners as the trail is sidewalk style and there are lots of up/down ramps...this is a challenge for beginner skaters!! I fell a couple times and messed up my elbow a bit. That being said once I got on the other side of the cedar ave bridge the trail was lovely!! It was a smoothly paved trail (not sidewalk style with tons of cracks) and there was plenty of space. The trail is well maintained and the sights on that side of the lake are lovely. Lots of places to stop in the grass for a break and not too busy. I’d almost recommend a down and back route that avoids cedar ave completely (for beginners). Hope this helps!!

Good paved walking path, parts of path closed due to high water. Cute little restaurant on trail. Lots of airplanes to watch land at the airport nearby.

Better ride in the morning during summer when there are less people. walking trail still flooded so lots of people walking on bike paths. A few lights during a bike ride which breaks up the ride. Overall easy ride. Almost no change in elevation.

A nice place to walk in the Twin Cities. It’s a bit more low key than Bde Maka Ska, Harriet, etc., which I like. The main downside is the air traffic.

Walking

Nice trail with some busy parts. Great for kids and dogs. Mostly walkers and runners. Can get pretty busy on the weekends. Part of the trail is a bridge that is shared by cars but the sidewalk is very spacious. Folks fish off the banks and there are a scattering of boats. I always feel safe walking this trail.

I love this "trail" for my city walking. There is lots of green space and three or four big areas where native plants and wildflowers have been re-introduced to help with water quality. This makes these areas great for seeing butterflies, bees, and birds, and many different beautiful flowers in spring and late summer-early fall. It is a great place to watch the change of seasons. Trail can be busy on weekends and quiet during the week days. Biggest drawback is proximity to MSP Intl Airport.

First to Review

Paved in concrete and/or asphalt. Two "trails" -- one walking and one cycling. The cycling trail is well maintained in the winter and becomes a de facto shaired trail when there is snow. Pleasent walk! It's about 2.75 mi around and takes me about 40 min (thought the trail guide says 1 - 1.5 hours! Who's pacing it anyway?! A mix of folks walking both ways! In the summer one part goes past the beach (on the north side of the lake). In January you can see the real hockey players on real hockey arenas on real ice! WOW! In the glide pat to MSP. so ther's a bit of air traffic to ignore. One portion crosses over the cedar avenue bridge, though there is an extension around teh west end of the lake which requires crossing Cedar Avenue twice. It's a great "stroll."
