Easy trail for the family. My 3 year old ended up on my shoulders for half the trip but my 5 yr old had no problem. Lots of good little stopping points.

Great for a family adventure, and perfect for a chance to leave the city behind for a couple hours. The falls we’re fantastic to see, and you can always follow the trails down to Lake Superior for more great views!!

This is listed as moderate in the gooseberry Falls brochure. I’d call it close to moderate on the easy scale because there are a few steep spots and you can take dozens of side trails that involve some moderate climbing down or up rocks. We only ran into a few people up near the fourth and fifth falls and it connects right to the SHT so if you wanted to extend it you could. Beautiful views of the falls (that would be 200% more beautiful without the noise of the road and shrieking children)

Really nice spot to stop and see. The wife and I got lucky and beat a large crowd that showed up so it was even better lol.

Love this place! Had a great time with my kid here. Be a responsible parent and watch your children. There are some dangerous places a child could end up if not supervised. Well kept trails, and very beautiful scenery. Highly recommend!

easy hike with the kids

Great little trail with beautiful views. Get there early to avoid crowds. I arrived around 9 am on a Saturday and didn’t have trouble. When I was leaving the park was packed full!

Popular hike that passes 5 river waterfalls. On the harder side of easy due to large number of steps. Interpretive signs help explain the North Shore's long geological history. Overall, a good introduction to North Shore hiking.

Beautiful trail. Heavily trafficked though. If you have time, take the trail starting at by the campgrounds and follow the cliffs against Lake Superior and up the side of the river for the best panoramic. Just going through the parking lot and to the falls is all paved and doesn't really count as a hike in my opinion - or as a real visit to what the park as to offer. This park has more than just the main falls; check it all out!

Gorgeous! Wasn't a hike, more like a scenic, elevated walk with loads of other people, but the views are amazing, and the area is beautiful. It's a closer-in trail, and so more easily accessible to those with a short amount of time and those who need something just off the highway. Very pretty, and we spent a good time longer there than anticipated because of the waterfalls. There is fishing also located off the trail.

Beautiful spring day

This is a wonderful area, the falls are great. The hiking path isn't usually to congested tourists usually stay by the falls. It's a nice loop, totally an easy hike.

There's a ton of sights to keep you occupied during this hike. Plenty of waterfalls, boulders, wooden bridges and walkways, and trees with gnarly branches and roots. I wasn't bored during any second of the hike. A warning for those of you hiking when the ice is melting: Do not cross the water over a slushy pathway. On a sunny day it will soon become a rushing river and you will be forced to forge the river and get freezing cold. One of the pictures I uploaded shows a man doing just that.

We were at the falls the day after ice out. WOW. I've never seen the falls or river so full! Would love to come back in the summer!

Really pretty falls. I've gone several times, and will go again. The last trip I went on was my favorite, because it was raining. There was hardly anyone there!

Beautiful area... Take the loop, it is amazing... Most people walk down to the lower falls n back, do the whole loop or your missing out.

Went early spring in April for the early spring thaw hoping to still see some ice caves along Superior shore as well as the Gooseberrry river trail. Good hike lots of action on the river.

This jewel of MN State Parks has many miles of hiking trails of varying challenge, from single foot-path to wide grassy trails, making it very family friendly. The well known water falls (upper, middle and lower falls) and great Lake Superior shoreline make this a must stop along the north shore, bringing crowds almost year-round, yet worth it. The campgrounds are excellent, the park has many great stone buildings from the conservation corps, and it is located near many other north shore attractions. Needs to be on everyone's to-do list.

It's a state Park so, it's a busy place. But it's beautiful to see the falls and follow it out to Lake Superior.
