I’ve traveled this segment many times. This is the North Country Trail. The NCT S2S group rerouted a portion of this trail a few years ago when the beaver ponds rendered the trail impassable. A little ways east and south of Maple Hill ( there used to be a fire tower there) the trail follows some amazing limestone bluffs. One of my favorite portions of the NCT in the UP! There are Geocaches along this trail for those who do this sort of thing.

I've hiked a few segments of this trial. I personally like to start at Trout Pond (a bit north) and head south. That has been my favorite route. There are a few brooks to enjoy and some nice hills. It's also very secluded, during that hike i didn't see a single person.
There's a new "connector" for the North Country Trail, that this one synchs up with. Just follow the blue rectangles.
Also, there's a beaver dam on one of the segments.
