Tried hiking the trail on 8/1/2020. Great views of Lake Huron and the lighthouse, but trail is under Lake Huron in several places. Wear swim trunks and shoes that are easy to take off and put back on if trying to make it all the way to the point.

Tried to hike this trail on 7/23/20, we were unable to because it was flooded. Pretty disappointed, it looked like it would have offered some really awesome views of the lake.

Camped at the state park and attempted to take the trail. Pathway was flooded. Have taken the trail in years prior when the water levels weren’t so high and it is a beautiful little trail. My family has made it a tradition to take it every year.

Hiked today (05/06/20) late afternoon, 46 degrees F, sunny and breezy. The trail is easy and delightful with great views of Lake Huron up close and the Saginaw Bay expanding into the distance. This is an Important Bird Area and it lived up to the designation; big groups of blue jays, impressive cardinals, tons of blackbirds, and countless other types of birds. I have to note two important things: as of right now the coast extends to only the part of the cape that the trail outlines, the rest of what is shown on the map is now underwater; secondly, at the point where my recording ends the land completely disappears. Otherwise a very pleasant easy hike.

Bird Watching

Wonderful bird watching trail (so much species variety compared to inland), there were several species I couldn't identify and hope to go back to spend more time. This birding trail is actually listed in Audubon's list as a significant location in the state. The trail is definitely washed out in places but if you aren't time-crunched you can meander in and out along the trail, center dirt road and beach.

Beautiful trail but the high lake waters have washed out a section of the trail.

An excellent location for a walk. The lake level is very high so most of the trail is underwater. It is still possible to do a loop to the point and back.

The lake water level was pretty high and had washed out part of the trail.

Tail overgrown and washed out in many places. Lots of poison ivy.

An awesome place during the second and third weeks of May for birding. Warblers and migrants everywhere and some nice rarities like Little Gull and large shorebirds. The trails are flat and broad and easy to follow.

No clue how the trail is as half the place allows dogs and half doesn't, the light house is great though and we saw a super cute skunk <3

Mid July. Hiked trail just after tour of the lighthouse ( cool and interesting by the way), the trail was easy for most of it but there was one section that was so overgrown that I felt I needed a machete to get through. Some areas were washed out. The views of the lake were beautiful however. Did not see much wild life other than a few species of frogs and birds. Decent trip.

Need to make another trip out here soon; it's been ages since we've been hiking up there near Tawas Point and the lighthouse! This was where I won a couple fishing trophies as a kid and my mom sang a couple concerts here (among other places around Tawas). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First to Review

We just hiked the rough trails down the tip. Nice trail, a bit confusing and waterlogged at times. Great views back toward the mainland. This is a nice little food stand where the pavement ends and the trail begins. The lighthouse is also a delight. Swimming a possibility; the beaches are small but more than adequate.
