Stinchfield Woods offers over 10 miles of trails. Large parts of the Woods are old pine plantation, but there are lots of oak and hickory areas as well, all criss-crossed with many peaceful trails. Most trails are in good shape, although many will have detours around trees that fell years ago and haven't been cleared. In the southwest quadrant of the Woods are two old radio telescopes. Bikes and pets are prohibited.

Cool fir forest. One of the trails has been closed due to private property issues. The trail must be close to a house.

HikingGreat!

Trails have been blocked off by one adjacent property owner who wishes to hunt and has complained of off leash dogs and trespassers. There are petitions posted in the woods on a few trails. You could also contact SEAS-facilities@umich.edu.

December 3, 2020. Reviewed these trails about a month ago. Great trails! Be aware that some of the trails on the south east section of the property have recently been closed. They’ve been blocked with downed timber, ropes and signs. Don’t know what caused this. It’s a shame because they were some really nice trails. Still a super place to go!

November 2, 2020. Love these trails. You can meander for miles! I reviewed this area last week for the Peach Mountain Observatory Trail. We did almost nine miles today with very little backtracking. Fantastic terrain, varied woodlands, peaceful, very few people, and no bikes! You can park at the Stinchfield Woods Rd. entrance just don’t block the gate.

Great variety of forest, nice soft trails. Would love to come back and trail run. Very cool to see the two observatories. You’ll need to take a side trail to the radio observatory which is by the far blue/yellow gate on the west side of the loop.

Way more than 3 miles. Very limited parking, but street parking is available. There are incredible hikes. Take the first trail on the right (it’s right around the bend) and one on the trail, then take the second right and you will hit some fairly big hills for Southeast Michigan.

Trail as it was recorded was pretty short so I added a few extra trails. This is a very pretty forest with many trails to choose from. I recommend Stinchfield Woods, but you can get much more out of these trails than this particular loop suggests.

Stinchfields Woods is a very nice, peaceful hike. The trails are quiet and in reasonable condition, although many are quite narrow and some parts of the wood have *lots* of poison ivy (esp. the south eastern quadrant, but assume there is poison ivy throughout the woods). The radio telescopes are cool. There is plenty of up and down. Saw and heard fewer birds than I expected.
