One of our most popular preserves, Spirit Springs Sanctuary has approximately 50 acres of wetlands that are part of the Rocky River’s largest headwater wetland complex. It contains a large stand of swamp forest as well as areas of sedge meadow and cattail marsh, and a large pond is popular with waterfowl. The uplands have areas of poor to fair oak woodland including a damp area with Virginia Bluebells which may or may not be original to the site.

This was a great spot to do some hiking and enjoy a small lake, some wetland area, and LOTS of turtles and frogs. There is a prairie type area that will be quite lovely once the wildflowers begin to flower. The trails were clearly marked and there were several other people on the trails all of whom were very nice folks. This location felt safe. There are no public restrooms but entry is free and it’s a great place to get some exercise and enjoy the view. I will definitely come back to this location again this Summer and early Fall.
