A beautiful setting and easy hiking. Header info is wrong about pets. Pets are not allowed on the islands; mainland only. Other comments about the mosquitos are correct at times. Check first; it does turn a great trip into an ordeal
Lost of history in addition to the scenery.

Backpacking trip with 4, 7, 9, and 10 year olds. Took ferry over on Friday and stayed at Weather Station. Setting and views were fantastic (some of the best in Michigan). The kids loved climbing to the top of the lighthouse, the ship wreck and the dunes (better than mainland with a 360 view). Trail to campsite was an easy walk and perfect distance for the kids. Mosquitos unfortunately were so thick it made it hard to truly enjoy everything that the island trail had to offer. Other than the bugs was one of the best places we’ve been to.

Took the kids on their first back packing trip here and it was an easy to moderate hike for them. ages 7, 9, 11.

This is one of the most amazing places I have been to in Michigan ever! It is 10 times better than the mainland sleeping Bear dunes park. Everyone should know about this wonderful place. Or maybe not. The solitude was amazingly peaceful. I would stay here a month if I could!
