Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail is a 19.7 mile lightly trafficked point-to-point trail located near Empire, Michigan that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
A beautiful trace, it's a 4-5 star, depending only on the crowd. It can be a parade in the more popular spots. Break away from the pack however, along the less crowded stretches. It's lengthy and can be hilly. On bike, ski or by foot see MANY pretty vistas.
Totally worth the effort starting and ending in Empire heading toward Glen Arbor - fun and beautiful workout!
Great trail on our e-bikes. Started on the east side of the trail at Bohemian road. Parked just off street in gravel north of 22. Dipped our feet in the water at the sandy beach in Glen Haven. Took us about 1.5 hours to get to Empire where we grabbed a cider from joe’s friendly Tavern and drank it at the park on the water down the street. (they do not allow you to drink it outside on their property). Stopped at the good Harbor Grill for a nice dinner on the porch in Glen Arbor. Road back to our starting point at 22/Bohemian with almost dead batteries. A perfect day.
