HikingGreat!Icy

A nice hike with a lot of lake views and some (small) ridges. I hiked it at the end of February and it was quite slick with ice from the melting snow. Even with some snow, the trail is easy to follow. I recommend taking the bridge next to Pickerel Lake on the way back; the views of the lake are very pretty and if you continue along the trail, it follows the edge of Silver Lake.

There wasn't much traffic today which allowed the recent snowfall to provide a bit more traction than otherwise.

Great section of the Waterloo-Pinckney Trail. A little bit of terrain and some great winter views for the first snowfall of the year. Was a quiet hike for us and only came upon two other groups.

Very well kept trail, easy to follow. A lot of mountain bikers, we went backwards on the trail so we could see them coming head on.

Started this trail late in the afternoon, got to Blind Lake pretty quick, so we decided to do part of the Potowatami trail too....turned out to be a nice 13 mile hike.....not too many people, and only a couple of mountain bikers.....finally got off the trail around 7:45, just before dark.....

The mileage for this trail is correct. Former reviews stating that the trail is closer to 13 miles is due to the Potawatomi Half Loop being completed. And in this instance on a beautiful day; I decided to seize the moment and hike the Silver Lake to Blind Lake trail AND do the Potawatomi Half Loop. It took me 4 hours to do 12.9 miles. The trail was nice on a cool fall day, with minimal people.

*HIKERS- make sure you start on the lake side so you are opposite the bikers and face them coming at you. Combination of sand, dirt, and fine gravel. Beautiful landscapes throughout the hike. We skipped the last few miles that were a loop and connected to Silver Lake as a shortcut to the end. Elevation is doable, the distance makes it moderate. We jogged at least half the trail on the flat parts.

BackpackingMuddy

Hiked from park headquarters to bike lake campground. Great beginner backpacking trip, hills were tough but manageable and the shortcut was a big help when it looked like rain was coming. Campground was well maintained with an outhouse, trash, and water pump.

The web site says 7 miles but if you hike the whole trail it's 13 miles. if you just want to do 7 turn left at Short cut sign. Loved the trail.. I'm hoping to hike it at least once per year.

Good elevation for Michigan. Lots of uphill followed by downhills throughout the entire trail. Bugs were not bad considering how muggy it was today. Not too many bikers. Good hike!

Nice trail. The mileage is off. It was more than the 13.5 listed so we cut across the silver lake trail to get to 12. Not too many bugs. A ton of bikers
