Awesome experience that I just checked off my bucket list, finally. It's a workout, ngl, I wouldn't call it an easy paddle - especially if the lake decides to act up - and it can turn on a dime, so pay close attention to the weather forecasts before heading out. The sun out here is brutal, wear a hat and use lots of sunscreen. I was already deeply tanned from a month in the sun up here, and still got burned by the sun. Also, bug spray. When you get to the rock, those nasty biting flies will get you if you're not prepared. Be careful getting close to the rocks in your kayak. The water can be choppy in the area, and I almost capsized when my kayak drifted too close to a rock while I was taking a photo. It's a fun trip if you've never done it, and would highly recommend.

A great kayaking adventure out to Turnip Rock. Kayaked there from a shorter starting point than Port Austin. Recommend kayaking in Lake Huron on a calm day as the wind can pick up quickly.

Great trail, kind of busy. Would rate as intermediate in mild weather. It is a bit longer so you should be in shape and use to paddling. This is on Lake Huron so the water can be choppy and weather can change quickly.

Call the kayak rental place in port Austin first, even if you have your own. If they are closed due to the waves then you can save yourself a drive or a sketchy paddle.

Considered an easy paddle if the conditions are quite. Port Austin Kayak is an awesome choice to rent and embark from. For more tips go to https://thumbwind.com/2016/08/12/paddle-turnip-rock-5-things-to-know/

This is an excellent way for someone who is wanting to get into kayaking or has limited experience in the water. Located at the tip of the thumb, Port Austin is a beautiful little town, very friendly. The local outfitter runs regular guided tours out to the turnip. While you are on Lake Huron, most of the paddling is near shore and fairly protected. This is a very safe, relaxing and enjoyable paddle, with lots of photo ops. Highly recommended.
