Old Mission Point Park is a 4.9 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Traverse City, Michigan that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and nature trips. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This is a lovely, well-maintained trail largely in sight of Lake Michigan. The trail and its offshoots are clearly marked, making this an easy, low-key walk with lots of options for shortening or extending your route. You may encounter some deer and owls. Excellent diversity from deep piney woods to sparkling beaches and a historic lighthouse at the apex. The trail is well maintained, and generally easy, with just a short downhill grade to the lighthouse.
I absolutely loved this trail! In fact, it is one of my favorite trails to hike. The maps are so easy to follow, the trails are very well maintained and the views are just beautiful!! I hiked this back in December (winter); I am sure it is equally as beautiful in the summer & fall.
Did a new year’s day hike and it was lovely - clear signage, easy-to-follow paths, and peaceful winter atmosphere. Much of the path is through the woods, but you do get nice lake vistas closer to the lighthouse. There are some memorial benches along the way if you want to take a rest. Overall this trail is easy with minimal elevation change. There were a couple steep bits that were tricky in the snow.
Easy well-marked trail system with many options to add or cutback. Pleasant enough but a little dull. Some nice pine sections.
Beautiful Autumn day in November. Well matted trail, markers at each intersection, and good mix of eco. Heavily trafficked area. Dogs on leash. Caught moon and sunset over the bay.
Nice to have an extensive trail system nearby. I hiked 5.8 miles and only ran into on short section that wasn’t clearly marked. Be sure to wear orange tho’ as this is an active hunting spot. Today, a group were pushing deer midday with hunting (capture) right from trail in two spots.
Amazing trail on the tip of Old Mission Peninsula. Especially on a gorgeous cool fall day with impossibly blue sky and gorgeous views of Grand Traverse Bay! Well maintained an well marked path that allowed many options on hiking. We went through golden deciduous forests, pine forests, meadows and some beautiful clearings. The walk on the sand of the bay near the lighthouse was especially lovely but the most crowded. The rest of our hike was quiet and only a couple of hikers on our path. We took our time with this hike as every turn was photo worthy and we stopped to take it all in.
Very nice well marked trail. A couple of steep spots, but mostly easy and flat. You can also park at the light house if you want to avoid the long approach trail. The lighthouse was busy with people who haven't heard that there is a pandemic on.
The digital map within the app is incomplete. Probably half of my hike today they had thought I was off route even though I’m clearly on marked in maintained trails
Excellent diversity from deep piney woods to sparkling beaches and a historic lighthouse at the apex. Well maintained, just a couple short 30-40% grades, otherwise easy-moderate.
This is a lovely, well-maintained trail largely in sight (and sound!) of Lake Michigan. There were some wildlife sightings and very few fellow hikers. The trail and its offshoots were clearly marked, making this an easy, low-key walk with lots of options for shortening or extending your route.
Nice hike, clear pathways, some elevation. Saw a handfuls of deer, an owl and dead mouse and a dead squirrel which were creepy. We started at marker 22, went north to the light house at marker one and circled our way back through 7,6,5,4,and 3. Outhouses were clean too!
