North Bay Trail is a 1.4 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Ypsilanti, Michigan that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for walking and bird watching. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
SEASONAL CLOSURE: This area is subject to seasonal closure due to weather conditions. For more information, please visit: https://www.ypsireal.com/listing/north-bay-park/1778/ Users recommend going counter-clockwise around the main loop, the first 0.4 mile is a boardwalk over the bay, with a nice observation tower at the end. The rest of the loop is a series of pretty arched bridges connecting a sequence of narrow islands.
Great loop, mostly easy. The first 500 steps or so are a steep downhill, so last 500 steps are a steep uphill. Love the boardwalk circling the lake, great views. One portion is very close to the highway, therefore noisy. Lots of benches and picnic tables along the way.
This is one of my favorite trails for the views. It’s pretty easy, too
The geese are nesting along the lakeside trail right now and they WILL come at you!!
Lots of wildlife. Beautiful day. Love the obstacles added bonus.
pros: Great place for seeing birds I don't usually see. The entire loop was the perfect length...not too long for my kids. Unique in that it's mostly on the boardwalk/islands. At end of the trail was a nice little playground for the kids. cons:. right next to I-94. Near the end of the loop it's quite loud, and you can hear it throughout. But it's a small price to pay for a unique birding spot so close to home.
Beautiful trail, kind of busy. If you’re bringing dogs, watch out for poop and don’t let them in the water. There’s signs warning or algae blooms.
The trail and park are nice, however, hard to get to the park via bike. Free entrance and exit ramps right outside the park and a pretty busy state highway that’s the only direct access to the park.
This is a beautiful little trail with some really nice views. Plenty of wildlife (deer, swans, cranes, turtles, ducks, geese) make it feel like you are pretty far from the city. Plenty of poop on the trail, geese and dog (seriously, please pick up after your dog, not cool), but it didn't ruin the hike. This is a nice little gem hidden in the area.
