Dominated by hardwood forest, the property includes red pine plantations, meadow, creek, and a cedar swamp. The trail system offers roughly three miles of moderate hiking. This beautiful property was donated to the Little Traverse Conservancy in 1984 by Allan and Virginia McCune of Petoskey. Old two-tracks wind their way through the preserve as remnants of past logging days. The spring-fed Minnehaha Creek, which provides fish habitat, flows through the preserve on its way to Crooked Lake. The trails were dedicated to Allan Purchis whose family homesteaded the land. A replacement footbridge was constructed in 1997 across the east branch of the creek with funds from the Petoskey/Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation in memory of Ellen Pray Bondy.

Very easy mostly shaded trail in figure 8 style with shortcuts that are good for families with small children. Nice woodland setting with a small shallow stream running through it.

This was a great trail! Both woods and prairie with a nice, sandy river running through. Easy terrain with exception of one steeper hill down to river, which could be avoided. One of the best marked trails I've ever hiked. Trail is well cared for. Not too buggy, but may want to bring bug spray in case. Not too sunny, but some parts are in direct sunlight. Not too muddy, but we did go during a drier time. No spectacular view or anything but very typical Michigan woodsy scenery. The three mile hike was just right.

Short loop trail with nice scenery. Not sure how it got labeled 'moderate' difficulty, this is a very VERY easy hike. Trials are well labeled. Wouldn't go out of my way for this trail as it is neither long nor challenging but would visit it if nearby.

Wow! From the autumn smells to the crunching sounds beneath my feat. My senses were tingling. What an awesome trail to hike. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

For winter goers: Parking has changed to a different location. You must park at Berger road.

My husband and I hiked this trail today. We were there about an hour and a half and could have stayed hours longer. It was beautiful, a feast for the senses. We can't wait to come back.

We found this hike absolutely beautiful! The trails are well maintained and 99% of them are in heavy shade under dense canopy. While it's called a 3 mile loop, it's a trail network with many subloops so you can tailor you hike from 3 to 6 miles before you start retracing your steps. Note that the trailhead a are hard to find - the better one is on Berger Road and will be on the left hand side shortly after turning onto it from Mitchell.

Very easy trail to hike with some great scenery and a couple nice benches for breaks by the river! Would recommend for a quick evening hike after work!

I had a few extra hours so I headed up to McCune for the first time. I was blown away! The trail is beautiful- amazingly peaceful. Creek sounds were great and you could barely hear any highway. The drive in was very scenic as well. They have nice benches by the creek and the hike isn't long- perfect for kids and nature study. Recommended!
