CampingGreat!

This is a new favorite in the Lower Peninsula! We were concerned about crowding, per reviews here, but went mid-day on a Wednesday and were very pleasantly surprised to only see two or three other groups on the trail. We parked at the Red River Bridge lot and hiked north along this trail. It was a bit strenuous for us since we were not in hiking shape at all, and I think "moderate" is fair. The elevation changes were a fun challenge. Views along the trail are wonderful, and we were treated to a mix of marsh, forest, and river. We camped about 2 miles from the parking lot. Many campsites were free, but began to fill up by 6pm. Would definitely plan to return again!

It was absolutely beautiful!! I will definitely bring all my camping gear next time I come. I was a little disappointed that towards the end of the trail the look out points became limited. The beginning of the hike was definitely better. But all in all it was a very nice hike.

Great intermediate hiking trail that follows along the Manistee River. The weather was perfect and the sun was shining. Views from the high bluffs along the river were awesome. A good trail for kids and dogs as well. We didn’t hike the entire length as we have a geriatric dog that can’t walk very far any more. The trail is in the Manistee National Forest and there were a few campsites along the way.

Great trail. Lots of hikers even though it rained and thundered.
