Really fun snowshoeing trail! Not too hard and plenty of options to switch it up.

Even though I only hiked the 2.4 miles from the upper lot (trail head on Alltrails is closed about a mile up the road for the winter), this snowshoe hike, mixed with four inches of snow that fell in two hours, was just magical. A little elevation and the hike down at the falls was just beautiful.

This was a nice walk through the forest. A little muddy, but totally doable. Gets you away from the people to feel a little closer to nature.

This trail is paved and leads you right to a nice view of the lower falls. If you continue through the woods there is a long boardwalk that meanders through the dense forest. It has some lookout points to be able to see more falls and have some falls spray up on you. At the end of this trail you find the trailhead to the upper falls, which is a dirt path that follows along the river bank. We stayed on the boardwalk because our kids are brats and they couldn’t take any more walking, lol. But it was nice and we enjoyed it. The falls were not that spectacular, so if you are looking for a breathtaking waterfall, the upper falls is what you want. Also, we saw lots of people playing and stacking rocks and wading out near the falls on the other side, but couldn’t see how you get there.

We stayed at Lower Falls State Park and hit the trail from there. The trails weren’t too heavily populated until you actually got to the falls, and then there were quite a few people, but we expected that. It had rained quite a bit the night before so there were a few muddy spots but the trail was beautiful and marked well. Our kids (10 and 11) were easily able to keep up with us and they loved seeing the falls. If you’re up to it, bring a suit! We actually came back the next day and let the kids swim on the bank a little because the first day we went we saw so many people in the water. It was cold for me but in the height of summer I would have!

Good trail when it’s in the morning. Only ran into a few people until we got to the main trail.

Gorgeous scenery. Best trails are off the beaten path. Def worth taking the boat to the inland island to hike and wade in the falls. But pick an off peak bc a Sunday afternoon was packed and no one following COVID protocols.

Nice wooded trail near the Lower Falls Campgrounds. Trail connects with boardwalk to the falls near the visitor parking lot and also near the falls. Also connects the lower and upper campgrounds. Northwest section of trail was under water during my trip due to heavy spring rains.
