The Kalamazoo River Trail is a mixed use paved trail for walkers, joggers, and bikers. No motorized traffic is allowed. Parking is free at all 12 designated parking spots. It has moderately heavy traffic and runs a variety of programs. The trail winds through a beech maple forest, crosses through some prairie grasslands, runs in front of the Kalamazoo Nature Center (where there is free up front parking for the trail, but you cannot enter the KNC), and then back into some more woods before rejoining the river and running along the river into downtown Kalamazoo.

Right by my house, well maintained, easily accessible. You can travel many places very easily, and see beautiful sights.

Giving this 5 stars for my activity - longboarding. I've never hiked it before but it's paved and shaded for much of the way which makes it great for hot summer days.

A pleasant ride for a fall day. It was hard work in places.

Depending on what part of the trail you're on the people and scenery can become increasingly sketchy. But for the most part this trail is wonderful and even the sketchy parts are very well maintained. When you're in the rolling hills near D Avenue you have some beautiful hardwood forests as well as friendly trail goers.

Decent trail to run and bike on asphalt but the scenery and neighborhoods can be slightly sketchy in a couple of portions. Make sure to bring dollar bills for the strip club that you will pass!

I have spent loads of time on this trail. I grew up riding, hiking, and skiing it when it was just the Kal-Haven trail.
It is a beautiful trail that you can spend a day walking and not get tired of it.
Now with all the paving which has been done your best off bringing your tennis shoes as a posed to your hiking shoes.
This is a long trail from beginning to end but well worth the journey.

The portion of the trail the runs from 10th St towards downtown Kalamazoo starts out lovely and is a fairly easy ride; however, as the trail progresses things aren't so great. The trail turns into an on road bike lane that passes directly in front of a strip club and then moves on through a questionable area of town. The other stretch of the trail that runs from D Avenue towards downtown is beautiful. it runs through the Kalamazoo Nature Center. On that stretch there are a lot of hills so it is quite a workout!
