Easy trail at Island Lake Park. This trail is on the opposite side of Kensington Rd. from the Blue/Yellow mountain bike trails and is for hikers only - no Mtbs. It is a very easy trail. One downside is for much of the trail along the river the primary sound is from the shooting range. The part around Trout Lake is paved, but the rest is natural. Going clockwise from the parking lot area, the first part of the trail, along the river and then back towards Trout Lake, is mostly deciduous trees. If, after going about 3/4 of the way around Trout Lake, you take the first cutoff to the left and go up and across the park road, you return toward the parking lot in an evergreen wood, making a nice mixture of Michigan woods in one short hike.

Nice loop featuring a pair of lakes. On the harder side of easy due to the length; the terrain is fairly flat. Sounds of civilization (shooting range, road noise) are all around. Trail maintenance was fairly good overall, but parts of the trail will need to be cleared again in the near future. Also, trail intersections are identified by letters A through I, but not all identifying signs have been erected yet. Overall, still a work in progress, but a nice loop.

A nice, easy trail in Island Lake Recreation area that is ***hiking only***! No mountain bikes. Much of it is a pleasant walk in deciduous and evergreen woods. Other than the paved section around Trout Lake, there are few other hikers. Nice trail for SE Michigan, only slightly marred by the noise from the shooting range along parts of the trail.
