Haven Hill Lake and Woods Loop is a 2.2 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near White Lake Township, Michigan that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April until September. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This nice hike wanders through the Haven Hill National Natural Landmark section of Highland State Recreation Area. A short loop from the Haven Hill Lake dam, nice wooded terrain and a few hills welcome the average hiker. Meander through the preserved lands once owned by Edsel and Eleanor Ford, the only son of Henry Ford. This is a true hidden gem in the suburbs of metropolitan Detroit!
Pit restroom at the parking area. Drinking fountain nearby parking in the warm season. Removed for winter. No services on the trail itself.
I'd suggest boots or at least hiking shoes. Unpaved trail with some wet areas, some rocky portions, and some areas of "tripper roots". Lots of opportunities to easily twist and ankle without good footwear.
Fun moderate hike on Easter with the kids. Would definitely come back. Beautiful area!
This was my first trip to Highland Recreation Area. I parked at the Haven Hill Natural Area parking lot (trail marker 22). There was an open pit toilet there. I then walked trail marker 18 and walked 15-16-17-19 and back to 22. I didn't find the forest walking as interesting, but I really liked the parts near the lake. Quite a few boardwalks in the "yellow" loop section. I saw a lot of mourning cloak butterflies! The trail took me 50 minutes because I cut trail marker 14 off my loop.
Nice. Had to detour once due to less traveled area with overgrown bushes, but otherwise very nice. 2 very large hills
Love this for a short little trail. The trees and hills give it a lot of character, and walking along the lake makes for a nice finish to the hike.
Beautiful trail in the fresh snow. No one around making it a peaceful little trail
Great trail. A bit icy and muddy by the lake, but really enjoyable hike. One of the best in the area
Hiked this in the fall. Nice trail, but lots of rocks and roots hiding under all the leaves. Watch your step.
