We started out on the Beaver Creek portion, then Little Carp River, then Mirror Lake, then Summit Peak. Ended with steep uphill to Summit Peak overlook at the end. And our Garmin says it was closer to 6 miles. So, probably go the other direction if did it again, as was difficult to end with the steep climb. Beaver Creek portion I thought was the prettiest and had the least amount of people. Lots of plank boardwalks on the Beaver Creek and Little Carp River portions. At points, you go on boardwalk bridges over waterways with beaver dams nearby, which is very scenic. Lots of mud, but almost always are able to find a way around the mud by going on the sides of the trails. Also some trees down, but are able to get around without difficulty. Woods are very pretty. Those that have deciduous trees were in fall color. Much of the trail goes through coniferous areas. Lots of lichen and moss, which I always find beautiful. Mirror Lake was kind of a letdown. It is a pretty lake, don't get me wrong, but I have seen many prettier lakes. In Michigan I think Duck Lake in the Lower Peninsula that has an outlet to Lake Michigan and beautiful colors in the autumn is much prettier. But, still Mirror Lake is worth hiking to. And the Beaver Creek and Little Carp River trails go through beautiful woods. The trail from Mirror Lake to Summit Peak is mostly uphill and very steep at the end, so like I said above I would probably advise going reverse from what we did, start out with Summit Peak and end with Beaver Creek. Summit Peak has a lookout tower one can take the stairs up to the top of. Has a spectacular view, especially with the autumn colors of the hills and Lake Superior in the distance. There are stairs and boardwalk back down to the parking lot. Note, the Summit Peak area is very busy. We didn't get to the parking lot until noon and had to park along the road.

Lots of dead water along this loop! Be prepared for a lot of mosquito bites. Overall a well marked and moderate trail that passes through/by Mirror Lake and a creek with what could have been a beaver dam. Not my favorite trail in the Porcupine Mountains area but if you don’t mind all the bugs it’s a fairly straightforward few miles to navigate.

Nice five mile loop trail. Recommend starting on Summit Trail and doing the loop counter clockwise. Many muddy sections. Many flies and mosquitos (late July). Two nicely located campsites in last 1.75 miles of hike.

Definitely start at Summit Peak (turn right at the trailhead) for an easier hike (most of it will be downhill). Otherwise the last mile or so will be uphill, as it was for me. Nice little hike.

took the loop starting work summit loop from the overlook. was nice to start off downhill. the end coming back you don't have to go all the way to the summit. thanks to previous review lol, we did bring bug net and it was helpful in spots. packed lunch, mirror lake was perfect lunch stop. just enough breeze to keep skeeters away and great view of the lake.

There were only 1 or 2 mosquitos. 1 or 2 BILLION that is!!!!! Nice hike if it wasn't for the mosquitos. There was a light rain but even so the view from the Tower was great.
