If you want to do the whole loop (the more intensive, uphill, scramble hike), go counter clockwise. If you are simply in it for the bluffs, the in/out trail to the left is much easier. Be careful on the road coming in.

One of, if not the, best hike in the keweenaw. Took it clockwise up to the bluff and ended up doing the whole loop. The way down the bluff is tough, steep in some spots but worth it to see the rock walls if you can manage it.

A challenging trail. Great views but not for the faint hearted and make sure you wear hiking boots, lots of scrambling and steep ascents/descents!

This is a 3 mile loop with about a 3/4 mile hike from the parking area to the trailhead. We went clockwise and the trail up to the bluff was a pretty steady incline but nothing crazy. Definitely a fair moderate hike. Views from the bluff are AWESOME so you should definitely do this as an out and back trail at the very least. The trail on the other side was pretty intense. It rained yesterday making the rocks slippery and the decent extra difficult. If you are scared of heights at all or aren’t up for a challenge, don’t take this way down. The trail is narrow, difficult to maneuver. It wasn’t so much difficult in terms of up and down as it was technically challenging. Tons of wild berries on the trail and definitely worth the climb!

Loved this trail. Tons of wild flowers, wild thimble berries, raspberries and blueberries along the way. Went clockwise. Pretty easy up to the top of the bluff. sooo worth it. Leaving the bluff is pretty challenging and technical (which I love) but doable if in decent shape. Everyone should at least do it as an out and back for the views.

This is one of my favorite trails. Beautiful scenery, decently difficult hike without being too difficult. I highly recommend it!

the views at the top of the trail were absolutely stunning and made the difficult hike worth it. The first half of the trail was moderate with some uphill climbing. The 2nd half was very difficult! there was a lot of steep downhills as well as climbing up rock bluffs. it was harder than expected but still worth it.

Pretty views, nice loop, not difficult for experienced hikers but there were a few steeper spots along the trail.

Took the counterclockwise direction with my 12 and 9 year olds, had to be super careful in a couple spots where we were right on the edge of a steep drop but it was really fun! Beautiful views at the top!

Sights were beautiful but don’t plan on doing the loop, it just ends

Great views. Nice loop trail. I couldn’t imagine going up to the bluffs if took a right to start the hike. Nearly impossible going down after a rain. Wouldn’t want to attempt going up.

The drive up to the trailhead is improved greatly from prior washout. Left side of trail is steady upward and easier to navigate with little ones, watch for loose rocks at the top. The views are stunning and worth every bit of the hike!

Absolutely without a doubt the best trail in the UP a must do for hikers and nature lovers. Left (clockwise) is for sure the easier way to go but still a challenge if you decide not to back track and take the rest of the trail out. Very steep climb down at times and many fallen rocks with step drops. A great hike.

Really beautiful spot with great views of the water. If you’re looking for a challenge, going counterclockwise will provide that as others have said, albeit it might be a little dangerous in some spots if you aren’t careful or if it’s wet and slippery. The regular trail is kid friendly but I wouldn’t recommend the counterclockwise route if you have some with you or if you’re mobility-impaired in any way. The regular trail is probably rated as easy... maybe moderate because it’s up hill. The counterclockwise route with the scrambling is for sure hard in my opinion.
